ANOTHER 3 POINTS ADDED TO THE TALLY AS HENRYS SECURE 3 PEAT OVER STEEL TOWN

Last Sunday we were back at the rec in another encounter against steel town in successive games. We knew they would be up for a game after pushing us all the way in the semi final.

Henry’s had to be better to get the win and the first half started fairly similar to the first half of our last match, missed chances for Henry’s in chase of the opener led to steel town catching us on a quick break and finishing for 1-0. Nothing of note happened after the goal until Cal stenton gets a chance on the half volley just outside the area and buries it with virtually the last kick of the half. 1-1 half time.

One change made at the break as Jake Ricketts put the gloves on to stand in for our injured goalkeeper but fortunately the story of the second half left him with nothing much to do. Henry’s were piling the pressure on and Craigie shows a burst of pace whilst carrying the ball which leads him one on one and he slots it away nicely. 2-1.

Henry’s had control of the half and made a couple more changes, one of them being the returning Finlay Clayton-smith and making an instant impact. He puts a beautiful corner in to the back post which finds the head of Ben Craigie as he squares it to Sam Hill who nods it home. 3-1. Steel town caught our defence napping and capitalised on a sloppy back pass to the keeper to give them another goal but Henry’s saw it through to the end and claimed all 3 points.

Man of the match goes to Logan Raines who has been one of the standout players this season and could of picked up this award several times this season but take nothing away from Sundays performance he was top draw.

No game this week so I’m sure the lads will be enjoying a nice weekend in . Blyborough away next week.

HENRYS ARE CUP FINALISTS!

The stage was set for a great morning of football with the sun shining and the boys in good spirits but unfortunately it was not the first half Henry’s were hoping for. Started off very slow wasting the ball constantly and steel town should have punished us if it wasn’t for the Henry’s goalkeeper Jack brunt who made some important saves to keep us level. Eventually Kurtis Gollings gets a free kick on the edge of the box and it finds its way into the bottom right corner to give Henry’s the lead. Although virtually straight from kick off Steel town caught Henry’s sleeping and scored the equaliser. 1-1 going into half time.

Considering that was the worse 45 minutes this team has ever produced we knew it couldn’t get any worse and with the wind in our backs second half the boys were still confident we would bring this one home. Henry’s came out all guns blazing but just couldn’t get the ball in the opposition’s net. Subs were made and Ben Smith came on up top and changed the attack for Henry’s with some good hold up play eventually leading to him picking up an assist for Sammy Edlin on the 80 minute mark. 10 minutes passed and Henry’s were looming after the game well and eventually the full time whistle blew to seal our spot in the final.

Certainly not our best or prettiest performance this season but all that matters is we got the job done and will see ourselves play in our first ever cup final as a team and we are definitely looking forward to the challenge against a strong Crosby development side. More details on the final to follow when we have them.

Man of the match goes to Jack brunt for keeping us in the game when we were struggling to get things sorted with some really good saves.

CUP SEMI-FINAL ACTION

Last Sunday saw Henry’s suffer defeat to league leaders Cross Keys who were victorious 4-0 and undoubtedly the better team on the day so full focus for us now turns to the league cup.

This Sunday Henry’s are taking part in their second semi-final in 2 seasons and are looking to right the wrongs from last year and make it to our first ever final as a team in our 2 years together. We are hosting Steel town at the Brigg rec and it’s guaranteed to be a good one so come down to cheers on the lads.

10:30 kick off. Bring your wellies.

BATTLE AT BURTON SEE’S HENRYS MARCHING THROUGH TO THE SEMI FINAL!

Away days at the smallest pitch in the region are never easy when the opposition fill out their own half but Henry’s were full of confidence regardless of the 5-0 defeat we suffered last time out at Burton.

The game started off steady with both teams struggling to threaten the opposition goalkeeper. Around the 25 minute mark burton capitalised on a silly free kick from Henry’s and made it 1-0. It didn’t take long for Henry’s to reply though as cal rusling made a surging run from centre half and played his brother Kyle through one on one with the keeper and he slotted it home with ease. Steady first half compared to the second… 1-1.

Second half was all action with both Henry’s and Burton putting on pressure from both ends until Burton were awarded a penalty which they converted. Subs were made for Henry’s as we got Kurtis Gollings on the pitch who’s is recovering from a “knee injury” and his first involvement was a well hit free kick which forced the keeper into palming it into his own net. 2-2. Not long after that Kurtis buried another free kick which deserves a lot more credit leaving the keeper no chance.

3-2 Henry’s with 10 minutes left all we had to do was defend but Burton whacks the ball up from kick off and win a foul which they end up scoring. 3-3.

Cup game rules are straight to penalty’s if it’s a draw at full time but Henry’s didn’t give up and In the 92nd minute of the match the Burton skipper is beaten by Henry’s skipper and plays it out to Kyle who whips in a beautiful ball to another injured striker who was subbed on. Any guesses?? Ben Craigie with a surging header! Limbs at Burton.

Brilliant result for the boys as we face Steel town in the semi final. Man of the match goes to the Rusling brothers. Cal winning absolutely everything at the back and his brother controlling the game with his high pressing and goal + assist. Not to forget the rest of the lads who played their part in the game, could have gone to anyone today.

HUGE 3 POINTS TO KEEP PROMOTION HOPES ALIVE

A windy morning at brigg rec this morning and a mighty task of burton awaited us. We started off poorly first 10 minutes giving away needless chances and picking up a 10 minute sin bin (woke nonsense). After going down to 10 men Henry’s seemed to improve and made a couple of attempts at goal ourselves but couldn’t make anything of them and that was the story of the first half for both sides.

Not much to say at half time and we commenced the second half. Same story as the first half, chances being missed from both sides until super sub Jake atkins came on and gave his all and picked out a worldie of a goal looping it across goal to the top left corner and the Henry’s players went crazy. Defending had to be done for Henry’s last 10 minutes as Burton chucked the kitchen sink at us but we stood firm and claimed the win.

Honourable mention to Jake Ricketts who had to fill in goal for us (literally). He saved a penalty to keep us in the match and made a couple of good saves aswell.

Man of the match had to go to Jake atkins for his 25 minute cameo up top. Not bad for a centre half.

This sets up for a very entertaining quater final in the league cup against burton again next week. We will be there to win.

STARTING THE NEW YEAR WITH 3 POINTS

On Sunday we travelled to Broughton which for some reason was a 13:30 kick off. This would be a different Broughton side to who we faced earlier in the season so we knew we was going to have a bit more of a challenge especially with the pitch being slightly on the boggy side.

Henry’s started the game in the right way playing some good passing football and wasting very little in possession. Dundy picked up the ball on the edge of the box and hit one with dip and power to find its way into the top left corner to get the breakthrough.1-0. Not long after Craigie got a flick from a scramble in the opposition box and the keeper grabbed it 2 yards in his own goal and everyone, Henry’s and Broughton, all thought it was a goal except for the referee who clearly was ready for bed due to the later kick off. After that Henry’s got wasteful and couldn’t get a hold of the ball for long enough to get anything going and our sloppiness was punished with a Broughton equaliser. 1-1. Almost straight away Henry’s were back on the attack with the charge being led by cal and Toppsy with the latter of the 2 knocking the ball across goal for Craigie to tap in and restore the lead. 2-1.

Second half started and nothing much to report. Chances for both teams throughout the half with Henry’s hitting the cross bar twice but nothing came from them. A good battle to keep hold of the lead with it being our first game back of the year so we take the 3 points and leave.

MOTM goes to Logan Raines at rb. Nobody could get past him on the day and his work rate up and down for the full 90 leaves a lot to be desired. Next up Burton in the league.
