🥋 Throwback Thursday 🥋

Today we’re taking a step back in time with this original Ishinryu Karate grading syllabus from over 40 years ago.

Featuring the legendary Sensei Ticky Donovan, along with some of the pioneers who helped establish Ishinryu Karate in Britain, this booklet is a reminder of the incredible heritage behind the style we practise today.

While uniforms, venues and generations of students may have changed, the values at the heart of Ishinryu remain the same:
⭐ Respect
⭐ Discipline
⭐ Perseverance
⭐ Continuous self-improvement

Every student who steps onto the tatami today becomes part of a journey that began decades ago. We are proud to continue that tradition and pass on the knowledge, skills and values of Ishinryu Karate to the next generation.

🥋 What a day at the first Ishinryu Junior Championships! 🥋

Yesterday was about so much more than medals and trophies.

For many of our students, this was their very first competition. Stepping onto the tatami in front of judges, spectators, teammates and family takes courage, determination and confidence—and every single one of our students did exactly that.

From our youngest competitors to our more experienced students, we saw incredible spirit, respect, sportsmanship and perseverance throughout the day. As instructors, that’s what makes us proud.

To all of our students: whether you came home with a medal or not, you represented Ishinryu Karate Academy brilliantly. You should all hold your heads high. ❤️

A huge congratulations to Cranham Ishinryu on becoming Club Champions. A well-deserved achievement, and we look forward to many more competitions together in the future.

Thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success, especially Sensei Chris Fennessy and Sensei Tony Spinks for organising a fantastic event.

🥋 Proud Doesn’t Begin to Cover It 🥋

Today, our students stepped onto the competition floor and represented Ishinryu Karate Academy with courage, determination and respect.

Some came home with medals, some came home with certificates, but every single one of them came home a winner.

It takes bravery to stand in front of judges, perform under pressure, and give your best when everyone is watching. That alone is an achievement to be proud of.

As instructors, we are incredibly proud of every student who took part today. The medals are wonderful, but what impressed us most was the sportsmanship, effort, resilience and support they showed one another throughout the day.

Remember:
🏆 Success isn’t just about winning.
🥋 It’s about having the courage to try.
⭐ It’s about learning, improving and coming back stronger.
👊 It’s about being part of a team that lifts each other up.

Well done to every competitor today. You represented Ishinryu Karate Academy brilliantly, and we couldn’t be prouder.

The future of our academy is looking very bright indeed. ❤️💙
