Today's focus is on Dan Brimelow.
Dan is involved with both Who Let The Dads Out Brentwood, and Daily Bread Pop up Cafe.
This is why Dan was nominated:
"My involvement with Dan has been through the Daily Bread Cafe volunteer collection rota, through collecting from the local supermarkets on a daily basis which Dan coordinates. He and his team have collected over 100 tons of food this year!
He is working alongside Lisa Whymark as well as many others, so my snapshot of it is tiny, but he has also supported Hope Community Church in being able to give the supermarket food (via Fareshare) to the single mums that are supported through the church."
Pre pandemic, Dan was keeping Brentwood active through Who Let The Dads Out? Brentwood – a baby and toddler group focussed on improving the outcomes for new fathers in Brentwood.
With Who Let The Dads Out taking a break during the pandemic, Dan has been keeping the town active leading a team of volunteers within the community and managing the distribution of surplus food from supermarkets to local foodbanks including Billericay Foodbank, Daily Bread Café and Hope Mums.
Since March, volunteers across local towns have delivered over 100 tonnes of food to foodbanks in Essex and has grown to be Fareshare’s largest distributer of surplus food from supermarket stores in the UK.
Dan said:
“We’re really proud of how the community has rallied round which has enabled us to not only support those who are struggling at this time, but also to provide sandwiches to the NHS each evening to thank all involved for their outstanding dedication during the pandemic.”
“I’m delighted to accept this award on behalf of the team that have been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this all happen.”
We'll be featuring more Brentwood Activity Heroes on Facebook and Instagram this week.
