This Sunday, after a month's hiatus, the Brent Social Cycling Group went all the way to Limehouse to have brunch at the quirky Yurt Cafe, a favourite of ours, stopping by to admire the history behind the wall of the Battle of Cable Street - an ever empowering tale of people united against fascism. Thanks to Andrea, Sue, Denise, Julia, Raxita, Alison, Caspar, Eve and Paula for joining ride leader Renata.
On our return to Brent, we came across the Naked Bike Ride (we can testify that none of our riders stripped off to join them!). A gorgeous day to be out on the bike - naked or otherwise! 😉

Spring has sprung, and this Sunday we used our bikes to witness its glory in Richmond Park and on the route there. The Brent Social Cycling Group cycled to the stunning Isabella Plantation, a carefully architectured garden of azaleas inside Richmond Park, which are currently at their peak bloom. The photos speak for themselves!
We then followed to King Henry's Mound, by Pembroke Lodge, to observe a beautiful view of the south of London and nearby towns from one side of the mound, and St Paul's Cathedral through a well maintained gap in the trees (with the extra help of a telescope) from the other side. The weather was perfect, so we ended up having our lunch alfresco!
On our way back, we stopped by St Mary Magdalen Church in Mortlake, and the exuberant Mausoleum of Sir Richard Burton (the explorer, not the actor!), a blended Christian and Islamic grave in the shape of a tent where Burton and his wife rest.
Renata and Kevin were joined by Helen, Paula, Tony, Sue, Joanna, Jef, Julie, Rachel, Peter, Lucy and Caroline on this beautiful day, which was only stained by the long queue of motor traffic inside Richmond Park, words that should never go together, especially on a weekend! But hey ho, we keep cycling!
We will be having a break now in May, back for a repeat of our most popular ride of 2025, the 16 London Bridges, which is already fully booked - but you can join the waiting list by signing up (for free) to our groups - which will allow you to be first notified when new rides are published.

This Sunday, we went up a few hills to get to the top of Ally Pally - the view is always worth the sweat! The sun came out between the clouds (and so did the rain, briefly, during our coffee break). Parkland Walk and Finsbury Park were part of the route, and very popular destinations too on this fine day.
Renata was joined by Sue, Julie, Joanna, Martin, Helen, Caroline, Paula and newcomer John, and if you'd like to come for a ride too, just check out our group pages, for free. We welcome everyone at all levels.

Cycling to Esher has become an annual event for us as a training ride for what's to come in the Spring and Summer. It's not quite as fast and long-distance as many club rides, but definitely one of the longest and fastest rides that we ever do. It's mainly through normal traffic, with some easier parts such as Bushy Park and the Thames Path around Hampton Court Park. Our stop is at the cycling friendly cafe G!to, in Esher, where they have blankets for us to use outside - something quite useful in that late March Sunday.
Renata was joined by Denise, Caroline, Sue, Julia, Ash, Julie, Rachel and Andrea just before a (cycling) break in the North doing the Trans Pennine.

The nonstop rain on Sunday was enough to keep us in bed. But it didn't. 10 intrepid riders covered themselves in waterproof and warm layers and cycled to the Barbican in the City, where we had tickets to see (again) the Conservatory, a strange and lovely surprise inside the concrete jungle that the Barbican is. Renata, Anne and Tara led Julia, Denise, Brian, Julie, Paula, Joe, and Andrea. It did pour, but the rain gave us a break on our way back, just in enough time to get us home and then started pouring again. *sigh* Nevermind. We keep cycling.

On the last day of the last Winter Lights in Canary Wharf, the Brent Social Cycling Group cycled all the way to a very crowded Isle of Dogs and back, having fun and getting amazing photos of the installations and the beautiful moon. Renata was joined by Sue, Paula, Denise, Julia, Brian and Caroline.
Why don't you come and join us too? Our rides are free and our group is friendly. Find us here:

On Christmas Eve, the Brent Social Cycling Group went on a special festive mission - to cycle to Duke of York Square in Chelsea and find all the 12 installations representing the gifts listed in the carol 12 Days of Christmas - all that covered in lots of chocolate, hot beverages and some chaotic, but oh-so-fun, carol singing from our group!
We wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a New Year filled with peace! If you'd like to join us in the New Year, you know where to find us:

On the Winter Solstice day, as it has become a tradition, we cycled at silly hours in the morning in the dark to arrive to the top of Primrose Hill and watch the first lights of the shortest day of the year. We hoped for a sunrise, but that's never guaranteed at this time of the year (is it ever anyway?). We, however, wrapped up warm in clothes, blankets, card games and lots of chocolate and enjoyed a good chat. After the day had officially started, we cycled to Granary Square to be some of the first customers of the day of Redemption Roasters, returning to Brent via Regent's Park. Always a fun ride to do!
