Spring has sprung, and this Sunday we used our bikes to witness its glory in Richmond Park and on the route there. The Brent Social Cycling Group cycled to the stunning Isabella Plantation, a carefully architectured garden of azaleas inside Richmond Park, which are currently at their peak bloom. The photos speak for themselves!
We then followed to King Henry's Mound, by Pembroke Lodge, to observe a beautiful view of the south of London and nearby towns from one side of the mound, and St Paul's Cathedral through a well maintained gap in the trees (with the extra help of a telescope) from the other side. The weather was perfect, so we ended up having our lunch alfresco!
On our way back, we stopped by St Mary Magdalen Church in Mortlake, and the exuberant Mausoleum of Sir Richard Burton (the explorer, not the actor!), a blended Christian and Islamic grave in the shape of a tent where Burton and his wife rest.
Renata and Kevin were joined by Helen, Paula, Tony, Sue, Joanna, Jef, Julie, Rachel, Peter, Lucy and Caroline on this beautiful day, which was only stained by the long queue of motor traffic inside Richmond Park, words that should never go together, especially on a weekend! But hey ho, we keep cycling!
We will be having a break now in May, back for a repeat of our most popular ride of 2025, the 16 London Bridges, which is already fully booked - but you can join the waiting list by signing up (for free) to our groups - which will allow you to be first notified when new rides are published.
