SING DANCE LEAP - ONE YEAR ON✨

Sing Dance Leap was a major performance project created as part of Bradford’s City of Culture year - celebrating the ideas, hopes and dreams of young people.

For our students, this was an extraordinary opportunity to take centre stage, working alongside leading artists, creatives, musicians, technical teams and performers. They helped carry the story throughout the piece, supporting a wider cast of young people, many of whom were experiencing live performance on this scale for the very first time.

We are reminded not only of the size and prestige of the project, but of the care, commitment & confidence our students brought to it.

To perform in the newly reopened Bradford Live venue, accompanied by the Opera North orchestra and as part of such a significant cultural moment for Bradford, was something very special indeed.

Projects like this stay with young performers for a long time. They open eyes, raise aspirations and create memories that continue to mean something long after the final note has ended.

A proud and truly unforgettable Stage 84 moment.

SING DANCE LEAP 🩷💚💛

This time last year, we were returning for the all-important performance day of Sing Dance Leap - the very first performance presented at the newly-refurbished Bradford Live venue.

Together with a wider cast of approximately 200, we had appeared on BBC News at Ten the night before - a huge moment in itself. Word had spread nationally that this was to be a very special performance, bringing together young people from across Bradford, both on stage and in the audience, alongside performers from Stage 84, professional singers, dancers and actors, all accompanied by the incredible Opera North orchestra.

As part of this epic Royal Opera House project, our students were among the very first to explore, rehearse and perform in Bradford’s newest and biggest venue. Standing on that stage and looking out into an auditorium with such an extraordinary history - a building which, in earlier years, had hosted names including Buddy Holly, The Rolling Stones and The Beatles - was a moment none of us will forget.

After mic checks, rehearsals and final refinements throughout the day, it would soon be time for our last warm-up before heading onto the stage to perform in front of more than 2,000 people.

A very proud, historic moment for Stage 84, and another sensational experience for so many of our students, forming an important part of the Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture year.

FEELS LIKE ONLY A MOMENT, A SECOND AGO!🎤

Exactly a year ago, Stage 84 travelled to Opera North in central Leeds as part of a very special project.

Students from across our Performing Arts and Drama Workshop classes in both Bradford and Skipton took part in Sing Dance Leap - a huge performance presented by the Royal Opera House, in association with Opera North and Northern Ballet.

We had the pleasure of working with professional artists from the Opera North and Royal Opera House teams, learning more about their work and the projects they deliver across the country. After rehearsals for singing and blocking, and a series of interviews, we headed into one of the larger spaces at Opera North for the all-important sitzprobe.

From the very first note, we knew this was going to be something special. The excitement in the room was unmistakable, with the performance itself due to take place only a couple of days later.

We were incredibly honoured to be part of such a high-profile project, and so proud of the way our students represented Stage 84 throughout.

Experiences like this stay with young performers for a very long time - and this was certainly one we will never forget.

A very special Stage 84 memory, and one of many in which we were part of the Bradford 2025 City of Culture Year. 🩷💚💛

FRIDAY FLASHBACK - Legally Blonde Jr. 2022! 💖

What a show this was! Stage 84 brought you high energy from start to finish, fabulous costumes, brilliant scenes, big characters, and a cast who gave it absolutely everything. This was bold, bright, funny and full of feel-good moments - unashamedly pink, and a production that was so much better because of our many talented students and the awesome team who brought it to life.

From the courtroom to the salon, and every bend and snap in between, this is one we’ll always look back on with a huge smile!

And in true Legally Blonde style, it didn’t stop when the curtain came down. As with many of our productions over recent years, a number of cast members have since gone on to further their own study and training at colleges, conservatoires and universities across the country - proving that hard work, commitment and a little Stage 84 sparkle can take you a very long way.

A positively fabulous Stage 84 memory! 💅✨

LAMDA LOOK BACK!🥇🎤

Pictured are Daisy and Holly, both highly committed former Stage 84 students who gave their all during their time with us, took multiple classes, and pursued their interests with real dedication.

Daisy has just completed her 1 Year CertHE in Musical Theatre at Mountview and has now accepted a place at The Oxford School of Drama on the 3 Year Drama Course, which she will start in September.

Holly has been at Emil Dale Academy since last September, studying on the 3 Year BA (Hons) Musical Theatre course, following two years of training at CAPA College.

In our 2024 LAMDA examination season, Daisy and Holly were both entered for Grade 8 Solo Musical Theatre and were awarded not only a Distinction, the highest possible grade band, but exceptional marks of 100/100. These results were a wonderful recognition not only of the training they received at Stage 84, but more importantly of their own commitment and progression, thorough research and preparation, many hours of lessons and rehearsal, and the skill and maturity they brought to their performances.

To hear that Daisy and Holly are now continuing to progress so well beyond their time at Stage 84 is exactly what we hope for. We are incredibly proud of them both and look forward to seeing all that comes next.
