U16s Division 1
Birky 10 v 26 Lock Lane

It wasnโ€™t to be our day unfortunately with Lock Lane taking the spoils and ultimately the Division 1 title.
Penalties and errors went against us but Lock Lane simply worked harder than we did and were good value for their win.

Lock Lane went in front 10-0 early on after a try and a couple of penalty kicks.
It did look like the tables might turn when they had a player sent to the bin after a professional foul in their 20. On the following play Charlie put Kian through a gaping hole only for it to be called back for a forward pass.
Lock Lane then went 90 yards up the field to score after some slack defending, they soon added another try to take the score to 22-0 going in at half time.

Birky were a lot better in the second half but poor discipline led to us going down to 12 players, Lock Lane made the most of this scoring straight away to make it 26-0

We were hit again when confusion led to us giving away a penalty and saw us lose another player to the bin.
Credit to the team we were looking a lot sharper and working together better. Pressure from our attack eventually saw Caleb putting Euan Fletcher through a gaping hole to make it 26-6 before Oliver Ward would add a deserved try from a sweeping move to close the gap further at 26-10. It was all too late but good signs.

Very disappointing but with the Challenge Cup final in 3 weeks against the same opposition, we have a chance to put it right.

Opposition MoM - Elliot Magson
Solid performance with Elliot carrying strong and defending well all game.

Home MoM - Oliver Ward
Got through loads of work at the back, with plenty of runs and reliable as ever in his last gasp defence.

This week the U9s travelled to Dewsbury Celtic for what proved to be a fantastic game of rugby in very hot and tiring conditions. Despite the heat, the team showed great determination and resilience throughout.

The players defended their line brilliantly, repeatedly holding up the opposition when under pressure. Some excellent offloads created opportunities for tries, while a few exciting length-of-the-field runs had everyone cheering from the sidelines.

It was a great team performance, with all the players working hard for each other and showing the skills theyโ€™ve been developing in training.

Birkenshaw Bluedogs open age 18
Queensbury 36

Birky made the short journey up to a sunny Queensbury confident of getting the result in todayโ€™s Yorkshire menโ€™s league Div 3 contest
Queensbury fielded an experienced and considerable larger team than the young Birkenshaw team
Playing down the slope in the first half didnโ€™t go Birkenshaws way as a succession of injuries early in the half left them with only 13 fit players for nearly all the game
At 24-6 down at half time Birky rallied playing up hill with a great 20min period to pull the score back to 18-24, a shock comeback was on the cards.
Unfortunately Queensbury superior numbers took the game away from a tired team to take the final score to 18- 36
The coaching team are as proud of these players today who wouldnโ€™t give up and battled on to the end when the odds we against them

U16s Division 1
Birkenshaw 32 v 6 Queensbury

Well done to our u16s who picked up a good win this morning to setup a mouth watering clash with Lock Lane, next Sunday at home. Both teams remain unbeaten, with the away fixture at Lock Lane finishing 16 all earlier in the season.

Today the lads knew they had to get past a plucky Queensbury side first though, and do so missing a few regulars with Birkenshaw only able to name 14 fit players.

The game was scrappy in places with local pride on the line and neither team taking a backward step. Maybe too much pride at times with Birky conceding their fair share of penalties and having 2 players sent for a 10 minute sit down in the process.

Overall though there was some great rugby on show with Queensbury taking a 6-0 lead before Birkenshaw scored 7 unanswered tries, through their centres and wingers.

Noah Sheriffe took the headlines with a classy hat-trick, his 10th try in the last 4 games.

Ben Kavanagh finished the game with a brace and a try assist linking up well with Noah.

There was further tries for Ajani Sodeyi who kept up his try scoring form and Flynn Sutcliffe.

Opposition MoM - Noah Sheriffe
He glided around the field and is almost impossible to defend in space with his pace and movement.

Home MoM - Caleb Grix
His kicking game and overall skill is just out of this world, another clever kick assist for Noah on the 3rd tackle and he managed to land a 60 yard kick perfectly in the in goal (great chase from Ajani) to force a drop out.

The boys had to dig deep and put some big minutes in with Spencer Hartley and Euan Fletcher leading from the front.
Oliver Ward came up with 3 try saving tackles, holding the opposition up over the line, like only he can do.

Kicking for goal was a different matter with that ending the โ€˜Windโ€™ 1 v 0 kickersโ€ฆ conversions 2/7 ๐Ÿ˜…
