🏆 Aldershot Tennis Centre, Mens Open: Grade 4
🥈 Runner Up 💫
What a Superstar effort, so proud of Edward’s efforts to reach the final and push his competitors to very edge to, what a player!
🎾 Match 1 | Won: 4-2, 2-0 (Retired).
Drawn against the No1 Seed, Edward wasn’t expecting too much from this event, taking some learning and experience from the Men’s league matches. From the outset, Edward had brought his massive serve to the court, where his opponent brought massive ground stoke speeds. Yet Edward coped and started to edge out. His opponent didn’t have a strong serve, recovering from an injury and elected to retire after Edward had pressed well ahead. Great effort and getting into the flow, a good confidence builder.
🎾 Match 2 | Won: 4-2, 4-1.
Playing the same opponent before in a great recovery tiebreaker, Edward had a good confidence and momentum behind him. But swiftly found himself 0-2 down in the opening set, shaking off some adjustments in sweet spot. But knew it was within his ability to turn it around. With that in mind, Edward came bounding back, striking down some shots and making full use of the court. First set won 4-2, followed by 3-0 in the second. A minor mistake saw a game lost, but with Edward serve to follow, he pounding back to win the second set.
🎾 Match 3 | Lost 2-4, 4-3 (14-1-2), 8-10.
A stronger hard hitting server, Edward was down 0-2 in the opening set, yet somehow you could tell Edward was still in this - Edward edged back to 2-2 and lost out on a few marginal points.
In the second set, there was nothing between them, running toe to toe, forcing a tiebreaker to 7-points, but this bound went on fighting for Edward, switching a succession of points in twists and turns to grasp the two point led, Edward’s momentum pulled a well deserved and fought second set prompting a ten point tiebreaker!
The deciding round, went just the same, a tough battle of serves, switches around the court and some small luck with the net cord too. The most narrowest shape of mistakes made the marginal difference to turn the first deciding points. A well fought battle, well over 80-mins for a event. Fantastic achievement, this is determination!
Edward is an excellent role model for tennis, great effort, solid performance, focused, fair and positive. Congratulations, we could not be prouder 🥰😎🎾👍🏻💫
