🏆 Aldershot Tennis Centre, Mens Open: Grade 4
🥈 Runner Up 💫
What a Superstar effort, so proud of Edward’s efforts to reach the final and push his competitors to very edge to, what a player!
🎾 Match 1 | Won: 4-2, 2-0 (Retired).
Drawn against the No1 Seed, Edward wasn’t expecting too much from this event, taking some learning and experience from the Men’s league matches. From the outset, Edward had brought his massive serve to the court, where his opponent brought massive ground stoke speeds. Yet Edward coped and started to edge out. His opponent didn’t have a strong serve, recovering from an injury and elected to retire after Edward had pressed well ahead. Great effort and getting into the flow, a good confidence builder.
🎾 Match 2 | Won: 4-2, 4-1.
Playing the same opponent before in a great recovery tiebreaker, Edward had a good confidence and momentum behind him. But swiftly found himself 0-2 down in the opening set, shaking off some adjustments in sweet spot. But knew it was within his ability to turn it around. With that in mind, Edward came bounding back, striking down some shots and making full use of the court. First set won 4-2, followed by 3-0 in the second. A minor mistake saw a game lost, but with Edward serve to follow, he pounding back to win the second set.
🎾 Match 3 | Lost 2-4, 4-3 (14-1-2), 8-10.
A stronger hard hitting server, Edward was down 0-2 in the opening set, yet somehow you could tell Edward was still in this - Edward edged back to 2-2 and lost out on a few marginal points.
In the second set, there was nothing between them, running toe to toe, forcing a tiebreaker to 7-points, but this bound went on fighting for Edward, switching a succession of points in twists and turns to grasp the two point led, Edward’s momentum pulled a well deserved and fought second set prompting a ten point tiebreaker!
The deciding round, went just the same, a tough battle of serves, switches around the court and some small luck with the net cord too. The most narrowest shape of mistakes made the marginal difference to turn the first deciding points. A well fought battle, well over 80-mins for a event. Fantastic achievement, this is determination!
Edward is an excellent role model for tennis, great effort, solid performance, focused, fair and positive. Congratulations, we could not be prouder 🥰😎🎾👍🏻💫

🏆 Bracknell May Open 2021: Mens Winner 🥇
☀️ Another hot day at Lily Hill, Edward played his Final match at 4pm, well prepared and focused on a targeted double title win.

🎾 Match Result: 6-4, 6-1.

An incredibly challenging match, with strength of play, physical agility and mental stability. Both players proving a great match to watch and played some amazing shots between them.

Edward was fan-tactically supported by his close tennis buddies, firstly with Andy Barclay, Coach & Mentor, great to see Edward’s training into high performance matches, Mike Elward - Edward’s school teacher, tennis sparing partner and team Captain, plus David May & Lee Jones, from Berkshire County Sport team players. Great support and encouragement, thank you.

These two wins (U18 Boys & Men’s) are a brilliant reward for Edward’s consistent effort, determination and performance. Edward has worked so hard in training and balanced his schooling to deliver his best on & off the court.

Top Marks, Top Man, Top that! 🎯😎🚀🏆🎩🎾🤩

🏆 Bracknell May Open 2021: U18 Winner 🥇
☀️ Scorching hot day at Lily Hill, Edward played three consecutive short-set matches to win the U18 event for the first time 🎯

As the No3 Seeded Player Edward had a Bye in the Opening round of 16 | Quarter Finals to Final:

🎾 Match #1: Quarters | Won 4-2, 0-4, (12-10).
🎾 Match #2: Semis | Won 4-1, 4-3 (7-3).
🎾 Match #3: Final | Won 4-3 (7-4), 4-0.

Whilst not an ideal first match, Edward pushed through to win a match tiebreaker. The second match was totally different, strong strikes between them, lots of rallying and tight decisive play, an ideal opponent for Edward showing great resilience and determination. The final was very similar yet notched up a further level, brilliant play between the with narrow margins and few mistakes to make the difference. Edward recovered the opening set from 0-3 to pull back and force an opening tiebreaker, which he also recovered from 0-3 down to win 7-4. Edward then switched up the game and closed down his errors to progress well, taking a confident second set 4-0. A fantastic effort 😎
Extraordinary effort in a tough day’s tennis, his target was firmly set and was rewarded in his efforts. Now looking forward to progressing in the Men’s event too! 👍🏻👏🏻🤞🏻 Come On Edward, you can do this!!

Returning back to the Clay to meet the wet forecast, Edward stepped up & forward very early. Without doubt Edward’s strength in mind, creating the right shots at the right time, using his power when needed absolutely shone through. A brilliant display and shows how well he has developed & matured. Fantastic effort & result.

🎾 Bracknell May Open 2021 | Men’s
Match #2 | Win 6-1, 6-2 (Quarter Finals).
Playing into the unknown, Edward quickly established firm control on the game, coped with a short spell of high ball tennis to disrupt a rhythm, but Edward maintained his focus and timing, avoiding the additional distraction of rain.
Good to get positively through this round and into a Semi Final again - Well done 👍🏻 🎯

Match #1 | Win 6-0, 6-1.
Drawn against the No.1 Seed, Edward was expecting a heavy and bumpy ride, but he took it in his stride, winning: 6-0, 6-1 in the baking sunshine.
No complaints, injuries or niggles - Edward included 3-Aces and several unreturnables ☄️☀️ Great effort and strong mind. Bravo.
Lots more matches to follow late in the week ahead, likely playing the rest on hard courts 🎯🤞🏻

🎾🎾🎾 Triple Win for Edward with BCS!
Nominated as Player #1 for Berkshire County Sports, Men’s Tennis (Division 1), versus Maidenhead Tennis Club; Edward was lined-up against his Berkshire County Team mate Arda in the Singles. Doubles plus a further match deciding tiebreaker.
🎾 Singles Win: 6-1, 4-6, 10-6.
After dual breaks in the opening service games, Edward was playing strong & confident to push through. The second set Arda played well in drop shots, which Edward didn’t respond to well enough,, before noticeably playing different to recover from 1-4 down. In the tiebreaker match play was point for point up to 6-6, before Edward pressed on to take the match.
🎾🎾 Doubles Win: 4-6, 6-1, 10-6.
A great match of long rally points, tricky returns, slips and tricks. Great to watch & good experience.
🎾🎾🎾 Tiebreaker: 10-8.
After all the other matches were played, a round of deciders was needed. Edward & Arda with a tiebreak rematch, Edward recovered from 3-8 to win 10-8, super effort and commitment.
A good display of tennis tennis between team rivals, played respectfully with friendships firmly in tact. Well done chaps 👍🏻
