Whilst we cover Inclement Weather within Appendix F of the Bowls England Rules and Regulations and have issued guidance on this topic in the past, we have created additional support to guide affiliated clubs, counties and associated organisations given the current extreme weather that we are experiencing across England.

It is designed to ensure the safety and well-being of all participants. Decisions regarding playing conditions due to inclement weather should always prioritise player welfare.

So let’s start at the end and say huge congratulations to Steve C, Christina T & Ken I, who were championship winners of yesterday’s Club Drawn Triples match 🏆

Runners up were Keith L, Sue D & Sue J. Well done team!

The match consisted of 27 players, in nine teams, playing four games, with six ends in each game. Points were attributed depending on a win, a draw, a loss etc.

These days don’t just happen on their own and without the incredible efforts and organisational skills of Heidi C, today would not have been possible. Thank you Heidi 👏🏼

Many thanks to the spectators for the support and for the delish cream teas!!

On Monday it was a real pleasure to host Bowls Devon Patrons for their annual visit and a friendly game of bowls. The Patrons are mixed players from various Clubs across Devon who went on to win the afternoons match, just by a few points. It was also a great opportunity for some new members to ‘have a go’ at a match, in a friendly but educational atmosphere. Thanks to Steve and Joe for stepping up and joining in.

The afternoon ended with a delightful tea, including cakes, sandwiches and snacks all served by several members of the Club. Thank you to everyone who helped on the day and in the preparation.

The crème de la crème was the afternoons raffle, thanks to Christina, with a great variety of prizes up for grabs. Regular winner Alastair was of course, in the mix and walked away with another prize!

The Objects and Aims of the Patrons Association
• To foster goodwill and fellowship amongst Bowlers from all clubs in Devon.
• To give financial support to promote Bowls Devon juniors and the Benevolent Fund of Bowls Devon.
• To arrange and hold representative Matches

There were some impressive performances from Bovey Tracey players in the various County Competitions this week along with some near misses.

Tyler S and Alastair F started off in spectacular style winning their Unbadged Pairs match by 24 shots to 14 against Marina (Dawlish). And in the Men’s Over 60s Roger B won his match against N Moore at Starcross by 22 shots to 16. In the Burma Star Mixed Triples, Chris T, Steve C and Chris S won by 23 shots to 19 on an extra end against The Den (Teignmouth). Playing in the same competition, Deborah, Roger B and Les H lost unluckily by one shot at Abbrook Park. Some great results there ladies and gents!

Heidi C and Chris T had a terrific win in their County Pairs match; 30 shots to 8 in the morning at Bitton Park (Teignmouth) but, unfortunately, lost by just one shot in the afternoon. And in the Men’s Unbadged Triples at Chudleigh, Kenny B, Roger B and C S had an outstanding win with a result of 20 shots to 5.

In league competition, the Men’s Mid Devon League team visited Furzeham, Brixham on a bitterly cold evening, winning one rink to Brixham’s three and taking two league points from the match. Both the Men’s Over 55s X and Y teams suffered the same fate, losing by two rinks to nil at home to Chudleigh and away at Ipplepen, respectively. The X team result was particularly disappointing after their excellent win at Starcross the previous week.

The ladies fared much better in the Triples Challenge at The Den, winning both rinks to gain six league points. Well done to Annette I, Janet, Rose Y, Carolyn C, Barbara V and Lucy B, a great result. (Winning team pictured) Later the same day, in the Ladies South Devon League at Starcross, Bovey won one rink and lost two, earning two league points. In the Grace Matthews Competition against Newton Abbot, Bovey ladies won both of the singles, in a very close game but unfortunately lost the doubles and triples. The outcome rested on the result of the rinks match, which Newton Abbot took by one shot on the last end!

It was a busy day for the ladies yesterday with two matches taking place.

The afternoon started really well with Annette, Janet, Rose, Carolyn, Barbara and Lucy, (see photo) winning away against the Den Bowling Club (Teignmouth) in the Ladies Triple Challenge (LTC): 16-14 and 21-10. Well done to you all, a superb result 👏👏👏

In the evening another match took place, this time at Starcross in the SDL, with a real mix bag of results. A great match with Julie, Annette and Heidi producing a very comfortable win on their rink and overall the Club walked away with 2 points.

A huge thanks to Rose, Annette and Barbara for playing two competitions, straight after the other!! 💪

At one stage we thought we might need a torch to finish the match....

The past week started with the Club’s men’s team visiting Belgrave Club, Torquay on a miserable evening for a Mid Devon League match. All players did their best despite the conditions, and it was Bovey who recorded the overall win by 10 points to 4.

In the Men’s Over 55s X Division, Bovey were playing at division-leaders Starcross where a late start enabled the match to go ahead after the rain subsided. Bovey produced an excellent showing to win by 31 shots to 28 overall, gaining 6 points to Starcross’ 2 and moving them up to just one point behind the leaders.

Well done gents, a great successful week.

Meanwhile, the Bovey Y Division team (pictured are Kevin W, Roger B, Steve P, Andrew C, Kenny B and Alastair F) were at home to Newton Abbot and finally achieved the resounding victory their performances have promised, winning by 45 shots to 19 and taking all eight match points.

Bovey’s ladies travelled to Paignton in the South Devon League where another match played in very wet conditions resulted in the home team winning by two rinks to one and earning 8 points to Bovey’s 2.

Wet conditions seemed to be the theme this week, and it was no exception when the ladies were in the Interclub County Competition against Bitton Park played at Abbrook Park. Rain didn’t ruin play though with the Club taking a superb win of 37 shots to 34 overall.

In the County Men’s Triples, Keith L, Tyler S and Les H hosted Tony, Paul and Peter from Marina to lose by 15 shots to 20. The main talking point after the match, was a swing of eleven shots on one end against Bovey, from a fluke wick off an outlying wood.

The week ended on a sunny Sunday afternoon when we welcomed Paignton Torbay for a mixed triples friendly and in a closely fought match, which Bovey won on three rinks with the other rink drawn. It was a slim win of just five shots.

Another great week, at Bovey Tracey Bowling Club.
