Bovey Tracey Bowling Club We are a small, friendly and welcoming bowling club based in South Devon.

Formed in 1911, the Club is fully inclusive, offering competitive and friendly matches, with various social events throughout the year.

Bowls Devon U17 Boys Singles Championship 🏆

9 year old Brandon Baker represented Bovey Tracey Bowls Club in the Bowls Devon Junior Boys Singles Championship (Under 17), his first ever singles competition since joining the club.

Playing against some very talented bowlers, many of whom were 4 to 5 years older and far more experienced, Brandon grew in confidence throughout the round robin stage and produced some excellent bowls. Highlights included pushing both eventual finalists to the final shots of their sets, with the eventual champion commenting afterwards that Brandon had given him "his toughest match of the day".

The standard of bowling was outstanding, but equally impressive was the support shown by players, parents and spectators, with every good shot receiving warm applause and encouragement.

A huge thank you goes to Chris and Rose Young for their support throughout the day and for stepping in as scorers when needed.

A fantastic experience and a great achievement for Brandon. We are all very proud of his progress and look forward to seeing him continue to develop his game.

Here’s the final league table for the MDL this season.

Bovey Tracey have had their best season for some time, finishing fourth place in division 2 (just above Chudleigh) well clear of the relegation zone and if we had won our match against Brixham they would have 12 points less and we would have been promotion contenders!

Looking good for next season with some great players joining us this year.

In the over 55 leagues the X team came a creditable third in their division and we’ve seen more success than we’ve seen before in the county competitions so the chaps have earned a rest before preparing themselves for even better things in 2027.

Meet Brandon, our youngest club member.

MY BOWLS!!!

I first discovered lawn bowls by watching people play through the fence. I had been playing marbles at home, and lawn bowls looked like a giant game of marbles!

When I first went onto the green, I was impressed by how big it was and how well it was looked after. Everyone at the club was friendly, kind and helpful. I even have a mentor called Chris, who helps me learn new skills.

I enjoy playing bowls because I love ten-pin bowling, and lawn bowls feels a bit similar. It's challenging because you have to aim with your feet, and sometimes the balls (woods) go in a different direction than you expect!

I was so excited when I got my own set of woods and couldn't wait to start playing with them. They've helped me improve my game, and I've now started playing in matches and competitions. My favourite part is playing a good game and celebrating with a soft drink afterwards.

I'm currently the youngest member at the club, and the only kid. I would love to see more children give bowls a try, because it's great fun!

Once a year we hold a Ladies v Men’s Club match. This happened on Bank Holiday Monday and the ladies won; for the first time ever!

The sun shone, the ladies wore team colours (just because!) and the men tried hard. But the ladies held strong!

Bowls was followed by a fabulous BBQ, lots of salads & sides and yummy desserts.

It was a tight squeeze to cater for over 70 but as usual the whole team pulled together and it was a huge success, raising over £260 for the Clubs fundraising appeal.

Huge thanks to everyone involved in preparing the green, planning, preparing and cooking the food and for those that rolled up their sleeves and washed up, swept the floors and left the clubhouse ready for another day!

What to do on a Super Sunny Sunday afternoon?

14 new members took up the challenge to play against each other in the annual Umbrella Cup.

Well done to everyone that participated. What a great asset you are to our Club 💚

And thank you to Heidi C for the organising and planning, not just for today, but all the other matches you do for us!

Watched and enjoyed by many experienced bowlers, the final was a superb match between Sarah G and Gerrit P.

Our Tuesday night in the MDL, our Men's team v Paignton C got off to a late start, due to traffic delays. This meant that the last few ends were almost played in darkness!

But it didn't dampen the result from our 'Super Team', with Bovey taking the result with 12 points to 2.

Team Captain Kenny B tried a new strategy for this game and although it may not have resulted in all rinks winning, we can not be disappointed with the overall result.

Kenny's 'Man of the Match' goes to Jason H who successfully skipped his rink to a win with skill and composure 🙌

What a Wednesday morning!!

First of all our ladies played Bitton Park in the LTC with a terrific win on both rinks: 17-14 and 12-11, with the last end taking the winning result with two points.

Great job ladies; Julie C, Rose Y, Lucy B, Sarah B, Deb S and Annette I 👏👏👏

At the same time our 'X Men' were playing Abbrook Park Bowling Club in the X Division and went on to take a terrific win of: 23-16 and 19-14.

It's been a busy week at the Club, with Marvelous Monday commencing with a friendly match at Starcross.

Friendly matches are a great opportunity for new members (fondly known at 'newbies'), to try a real game of bowls, in an encouraging and supportive environment. Remember everyone was a 'newbie' at some stage!

Bovey Tracey Bowling Club & Bovey Tracey Cricket Club would like to thank everyone who supported our car boot sale on Sunday. We had over 70 sellers, too many buyers to count and lots of happy people 😎

Many thanks to H.W. MARTIN (TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT) LIMITED for the loan of parking cones and the bespoke signage. This really helped us to manage the traffic and supported our neighbours. Thanks Toby!

This year we were extremely grateful to our friends at Wifford Farm who kindly allowed the use of a field for additional parking. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

And super huge thanks to all members at both clubs. Those who attended the many meetings, weeks in advance, those who sorted thorough boxes and bags of things to sell, those that baked and served the delicious cakes and bacon sandwiches and those that turned up on the day and just did what was needed.

What a team 🙌
