Felixstowe Triathlon 🥇🏆
First time ever leading from start to finish, and to top it off, recording the fastest swim, bike and run splits of the day 😬🙌
Super happy to be back in the sub-20-minute club for a 1500m open water swim, especially considering the currents weren’t exactly in our favour. Perfect preparation for Ironman Wales! My new wetsuit from Orca was absolutely spot on. Huge thank you to Rockfield Payroll for helping me fund it after my previous suit ripped during my last race 🙏
At the time, I didn’t think I’d had a particularly great bike leg. There were countless tight turns, loads of road furniture, and even three complete stops because of junctions and roadworks. Despite that, I managed to extend my lead from just 20 seconds out of the swim to around 4½ minutes by T2.
That gave me a comfortable cushion heading onto the run. Before the race, I’d promised myself that if I was leading, I’d keep the bigger picture in mind and avoid digging too deep. With Ironman Wales just around the corner, the priority was to run within myself and recover well enough to get straight back into training this week.
A controlled 38:25 10km was enough to extend the lead to almost six minutes by the finish 🙌
A fun race to break up the Ironman build, and most importantly, a great trip down to Suffolk to catch up with Davina Johnston & Iain Johnston.
Now it’s time for the final eight-week push towards Ironman Wales 🏴💪
