Horwich St Mary’s Rockets are looking for new players to join our current U11s team ahead of the move to U12s next season.

All positions welcome, outfield players and goalkeepers. We’re currently holding open training sessions on Monday evenings.

📍 Scholes Bank, Horwich, Bolton

⚽ Saturday morning matches
⚽ Current U11s (Year 6) moving to U12s (Year 7) from August
⚽ Bolton, Bury & District League

A bit of a farce with player numbers this morning again from Astley Bridge, but we got under way with 7v7 which became 8v8 and then 9v9 for second half.

Luca, Daniel and Ethan shone in the midfield and attacking positions this morning, both our wingers scored.

Awande POTM with a stunning second half display absolutely running his socks off in midfield, winning the ball and driving forward, playing dangerous passes and almost scoring a couple.

Second half performance built on a strong defensive first half, team passing was excellent throughout. Joseph stood out as our POTM in defence, Sam always looked steady behind him. Mason, Marcus and Daniel ran their socks off and cleared their lines well.

Our midfield clicked into gear in the second half. Our triallist, Awande, confidently passing from the right wing, with Evie and Daniel providing some clever link up play. Luca worked hard on the wing, and was excellent in the second half at looking and finding passes to teammates. In central midfield, Ethan and Freddie mopped up countless loose balls and helped build attack after attack.

But for goals, you need killers. Joey and Monica stepped up today, a brilliant penalty from Joey and two clever finishes inside the box from Monica helping seal a 3-1 win.

From back to front, that was a proper team performance. Built on running and fighting, but with some quality on top. Step by step

That's more like it. Superb defensive display, building on our plan from training with Marcus, Joe and Mason shielding POTM Sam who kept Rockets in the match in the first 15 minutes with some outstanding saves.

Midfield of Ethan, Freddie, Evie, Luca and Monica grew into the match, getting a stranglehold of possession and being able support Joey.

Joey was lethal this morning, bagging four goals and an assist.

Mason stood out playing on the left side of defence but Sam's incredible saves prove why he's such an important addition to our team. His kicking set up chance after chance and that's why he deserves the plaudits for this match.

A pretty tough morning against a very bright Moss Bank, in a game in which I don't think we have full energy and fight for the whole match.

When we had our patches of good play we were excellent, moving the ball up the pitch and making good openings.

Credit to Freddie who had a tough first half (along with a lot of them) but doubled down on his effort and finished the match as one of our best players - brilliant mentality. Joey battled through the pain and scored one really neat goal and could have (should have - let's be honest 🤣) scored more.

Special shout out to Monica who curled in a beautiful free kick late on 👌🏻🌠.

Probably one more match and two more training sessions before the cup comp - let's aim to enter that one a high. Defending in the box and finishing will be very high on the agenda 🫣

🏆POTM x2:
Marcus. Great performance today on the wing, excellent ball carrying and attacking play.

Mason, solid and reliable in CDM scoring an excellent goal.

📝Summary:

The main instructions today were to be direct, play the ball forward early and squeeze the opponents as much as possible and tbh the Rockets delivered on that.

The game was fairly even in the first although we headed into half time 1-2 down. Second half was mostly Rockets bringing the game back to 2-2. We let soft goal in and couldn’t convert many of the chances made at the other end.

Although we lost today still plenty of good things to take away.

🏆POTM x2:
Mason, high energy, combatitive - excellent in CDM.
Danielle, usual all action display making some crucial tackles in defence towards then end of the game

📝Summary:

The game started off well with Harrison making an excellent run and through ball pass into Monica. However RMI managed to get a foothold and put us under pressure for a good 10mins or so. But then we found our rhythm making some excellent counter attacks eventually resulting in a goal. The second half was equally as competitive with some great attacking play resulting in another goal. RMI pulled a goal back toward the end and tbf given the amount of chances they had they probably deserved a goal.

Well done today Rockets. Some great individual performances especially from the wide players.
