3 POINT SATURDAYS ARE BACK🤩🇳🇬

The lads got back to winning ways against a spirited Newbiggin Reds side today at home. Starting with a different shape and players in different roles the lads started really well. Credit to the management who got it tactically spot on despite missing key players particularly in defensive areas.

We started brightly and put for a few very tight offside calls we could’ve been a couple up early on. We eventually went 1-0 up through Riley after sensational play from Ollie to pick the ball up in the pocket and slot in a perfectly weighted pass for Riley to calmly slot away 1v1. We continued to press on and eventually found a second after Whiss found Riley from deep at left full back for again the same outcome, Riley slotting away calmly 1v1. A defensive error allowed Newbiggin a big chance to pull one back but Adam stood up brilliantly to deny at point blank range. Unfortunately we were undone from another corner that followed Adam’s stop. Pretty much soon after El brilliantly found Whiss who made up for his earlier defensive error to smash a cross in for Cole to convert smashing somehow home with his knee into the top corner sending us into the break 3-1 up.

A change of system from Newbiggin made the second half much more of a contest and scored a deserved second after a defensive mix-up at the back between centre half & keeper. Like the first half, Adam stepped up and atoned for his error with a brilliant ball direct into Riley who did ever so well to dance through the box and slot away his hat-trick rounding off a 4-2 win.

Huge credit to all of the lads today. A different shape, a makeshift back 4 who stood up to a man and got what they deserved in 3 points against a good side. Immense character shown today.

Opposition MOTM - Ollie Lewis
Again, sensational from the young lad. The change of shape really suited Ollie today and found pockets of space on the half turn to create chances from deep for the forward lads!

Committee’s MOTM - Riley Gray
A well taken hat-trick on his return and unlucky not to have a couple more but for some very tight offsides. Ran the channels, pressed their back line and was clinical in front of goal.

Another tough one to take today for the lads on the road.

Flying out the blocks we created some brilliant chances and moved the ball around throughout the team. We went 1 up early through Deano who broke through to slot it away. More good chances followed and we eventually found a second from the spot, more good work from Deano to win a penalty and stepped up to put away his & our second. We conceded a disappointing goal which halted our momentum and allowed North East Sporting club to grow into what before their goal was a one sided display from the young Spartans lads.

More chances followed second half as well as Dean being unfortunate to not round of his hat-trick from the spot. Unfortunately the lads couldn’t take them today and eventually we were pegged back to 2-2. Some tired bodies & minds after a great shift caused a defensive mix-up and allowed Sporting to grab a late winner.

A day of missed chances and mistakes at both ends may of cost of 3 points today but the lads put in another brilliant shift and played some great football on a tough pitch.

Committee’s MOTM - Ollie Lewis
Now becoming the norm it was an another all round display from Ol in the middle. Creating chances and showing great work ethic in the middle to do the dirty work too.

Opposition MOTM - Lewis Walker
Battled hard against an experienced Sporting Midfield. Progressed the ball well and recovered the ball high on numerous occasions to set counter-attacks.

Defeat at Wensleydale for the lads tonight.

A night to learn from tonight against an experienced Westgate side. The lads didn’t hit anywhere near their levels from the off in all honesty and couldn’t cope with Westgate’s physicality and experience. They lead from a defensive mix up leaving their striker space to run through and put them 1 up.

Some harsh words were had at half time which made a huge difference with a completely different performance from HT. The lads showed much more bravery on the ball and created chances from the off. Whiss brought us level 5 minutes after the break after Owen fizzed in a brilliant pass for Whiss who had a touch out his feet and curled one top corner from 25 yards. We continued to create chances which on another night should be on the back of the net. Westgate scored two goals from sloppy goals on our part to clinch a 3-1 win.

Lots the learn for the lads tonight but a one we’ll be better for in the long run.

Committee’s MOTM - O.Elliott
A solid defensive performance and was a welcome return back into the starting XI. Chipping in with an assist and unlucky not to get a goal after getting on the end of pretty much every set-piece!!

Opposition MOTM - D.McKenzie
Another brilliant performance in the middle from our captain who controlled the game, was a constant voice in the middle and got us playing out from the back.

Defeat for the lads today but one to be proud of. 👏🇳🇬

The lads knew the challenge ahead of them today against a side from the Premier Division, multiple leagues above with pretty much all of our senior players unavailable.

A young squad marshalled by coach turned player for the day Pitty set out to frustrate the opposition and be a threat on the break. The lads kept it tight for the opening exchanges for the game defending well and working for one & other. Wallington broke the deadlock after 25 minutes after a tight offside call went in their favour. The lads kept battling but went into HT 2-0. Despite the score line there were plenty of positives and more of the same was urged by Pitty & Whiss during the interval.

The lads continued to battle well throughout the second half but Wallington scored a couple more to go 4-0 up. All three subs in Alfie, Noah S & Whiss made a difference coming on to get us further up the pitch. Around the 80th minute mark we got our first of the day with great play out from the back working it into Whiss who played a clever back-heel to Tenchy on the overlap who swung in a brilliant cross again, for Alfie to get on the end of to grab his first of the season. Shortly after, playing with their tales up the lads scored another after a brilliant ball over the top from Lewis to find Alfie to lob the keeper from 25 yards.

In a game where there was no expectation the lads showed they can battle with any team on their day. 14 players available with host of senior players missing, all 14 lads grafted today and showed what they had about them. A special mention to 7 of our U17 & U18’s Blyth Spartans Juniors lads who were thrown in at the deep end and came out shining.

Opposition MOTM - G.PITT
Stepping in at CB and putting his body on the line from minute 1. Making countless blocks, clearances off the line, aerial duals. Leading the back line throughout the game superbly.

Committee’s MOTM - A.HARRISON
Made a huge difference coming off the bench. Ran channels & stretched the game to help get us out when we tired in the second half. Scored two much deserved goals through his desire to get in behind.

Well done lads. One to be proud of today. 👏

FT at Ella Park with the lads suffering a first defeat of the season.

The lads battled well with a handful of key players missing but plenty of things to improve & learn from tonight in defeat to a good side.

After going 1-0 down early, the lads battled back through great play from Tenchy down the left to win a pen. Hepple drew us level from the penalty spot sending MR RTK the wrong way. Too many errors cost us tonight for a deserved victory for Ellington.
