Saturday 23rd November took us on our travels again, this time to Coventry City Girls FC. With Storm Bert battering the UK it was amazing the game went ahead. However the pitch had held up well which was a credit to the venue.

We again had to shuffle our squad due to Injury, this time to our Goalkeeper. With a finger like an S from training we had to call in one of outfield players to plug the gap. Get well Soon Amber and thank you Crystal for filling the void.

The game started just as Storm Bert did with the wind and rain making the playing condition not ideal.

Lane Head started brightly and pressed Coventry well and were rewarded with a goal on 4 minutes. With their defence retreating, Lola pressed the defender who cleared the ball onto Lola who in turn did a beautiful cutback and striked the ball low into the corner of the net beyond the diving Coventry keeper.

Both sides continued to press and make chances, with Coventry looking the likeliest to score as the half went on and that is just what they did. 40 minutes on the clock and Coventry took a quick throw-in, from here they moved the ball nicely into the midfield and then fed a nice through ball into the striker. With the striker allowing the weight of pass to do the work she met the ball first time and slotted the ball into the corner of the goal leaving Crystal no chance of a save.

Half Time 1-1

Second Half saw the weather deteriorate further, but both teams lined up for a crucial next goal.

Lane Head came out the second half the strongest and applied pressure, with the wind against us in the 2nd half I think this helped to ensure the ball held up and we could pass the longballs we attempted in the first half without the wind taking it onto the keeper. We created some good chances but didn’t test the keeper.

Now the next goal is something you don’t see often and is always a bone of contention. 75th minute Coventry applied pressure from a clearance from our keeper and nicked the ball off our player, the loose ball ran through to our defender who released the ball but to be caught late after the ball by the attacking Coventry player right in front of the Referee who didn’t bat an eyelid!! The ball again was pressed by the Coventry attack and moved nicely across the box and laid in for their winger to slot the ball at the near post. OFFSIDE, flag raised due to a tight but judged offside decision. Referee intervened and overruled the linesman, he adjudged he was in a far better position. Linesman was looking across the line but the referee refused to discuss his decision and awarded the goal. I am all for a clear and obvious error but this was not one.

Lane Head didn’t let their heads drop and continued to push for a goal, both teams battled well and continued to create half chances, with the onset of hypothermia kicking in and the 90 minutes upon us Dami picked up the ball and on the half turn from midway in her own half slotted a beautiful ball through the midfield and defence for Shaniya to run onto. With a burst of pace and determination to run at goal she cooly slotted the ball home

Final Whistle, a well-played out game in awful weather. Not the result we wanted, but a draw we deserved.

Phoebe, a solid performance in defence, positioned herself well and reacted with pace when needed.

Saturday saw us in League Action away at Sutton Coldfield Town. This was our 3rd meeting of the season with a game in the league and Cup behind us, both results favouring the Lionesses.

Sutton Kicked off in blue with the Lionesses playing in their yellow away strip.

Lane Head started strong with an early chance for Dami from a lovely lay off from Katie that went narrowly over the bar. CLOSE!

In the 14th minute pressure from Land Head resulted in a corner. Crystal stepped up to take and crossed the ball into the near post area, with the ball dropping a Sutton defender attempted a clearance but inadvertently steered the ball into their net.

21 Minutes and another corner, same taker, same end result, different scorer! This time Crystal aimed for the far post and this time it was a lane head player on the end, a beautiful volley from Shaniya and a 2nd assist for Crystal.

The remainder of the half saw Suttons goal keeper pull off some lovely saves and their defence doing a resolute job to hold the score to 0-2 at half time.


50 minutes on the clock and Lane Head again were awarded a corner. A carbon copy of our 2nd goal. Assist Crystal, scorer Shaniya with some brilliant positional and instinctive forward play.

Lane Head continued to press in the second half and Sutton continued to defend. Lane Head at times made hard work of their possession and Sutton did not give up and continued to throw their bodies in the way of shots and crosses.

72 minutes saw Lane Head score their 4th Goal from a set piece and a 4th assist from Crystal. Left foot corner, right foot shot by Reagan at the near post. The score reflected the dominance of Lane Head.

9 minutes before full time saw Lane Heads only goal from open play and their 5th and last of the game. A through ball from Reagan which picked out Katie who hit a lovely first time pass into the path of Maddie and the closing defender. Some great strength saw Maddie brush off the defender and hit a well-placed shot into the bottom corner of the Sutton goal.

Final whistle saw a comfortable if not unconventional scoreline with 4 corners, 4 goals.

Today saw Crystal’s Corners giving us the edge we needed, her left foot and perfect placement allowed our team to convert chances between the sticks. Well done Crystal on 4 assists.✅✅✅✅

We thank Sutton Coldfield Town for a well fought game and wish them well for the remainder of the season.

Saturday was our 2nd round in the U18 Open Cup, and we returned to Kidderminster Harriers for a repeat of our league match. With a heavy 5-0 loss in out last outing we were prepared for a tough encounter.
A change of pitch this time and hopefully a change in performance and result!
The game started with Kiddy making the first move with a quick free kick down the left wing to their number 15 and a nice cut inside where they produced a great strike which had our goalie beaten but not the upright. Close!
On the 17th minute after some great pressure, Lane Head were awarded a corner. Crystal stepped up to take the in sw***er with her left foot. With a perfect delivery the ball evaded everyone in the box and nestled beautifully into the net. Goal!!⚽️

0-1 Lionesses.

Being a Goal down spurred Kiddy on and their pressure resulted in a goal down their left. On 25 minutes a nice through ball saw their winger latch onto the pass and cut in across our fullback. Their strike on goal was high and on target but Amber in goal was unfortunate not to save this with two hands on the ball she could only push this under her bar and into the net. Goal!⚽️

1-1 Kiddy Harriers – GAME ON!

The game didn’t stay level for long, pressure from Lane Head saw a corner awarded 3 minutes after Kiddys Goal. Crystal again stepped up to take the corner, this time from the opposite side, she curled in an inch perfect outsw***er which was met by Lola and headed home! A perfectly timed run and perfectly timed Goal!⚽️

1-2 Land Head! COME ON!

Half time 1-2, what a difference from the last match!

The next goal could prove crucial after half time,

52 minutes on the clock and a quick goal kick from Kiddy saw their defence put under pressure. With a brilliant last ditch slide tackle from Kiddy on Katie who was about to shoot it looked like the opportunity had been lost but the ball only fell as far as Eesha who set up Katie again who made no mistake and nestled the ball into the net! Goal!⚽️

1-3 Lionesses!

The game continued to be end to end with Kiddy not letting the score line effect their play and were still creating chances. 73 minutes saw the game sealed after a short goal kick fell to Eesha just outside the Kiddy penalty area. Eesha instinctively took a shot which struck the arm of the Kiddy defender! PENALTY TO LANE HEAD!

Crystal stepped up to take the kick and with nerves of STEEL and a left foot of GOLD, she slotted the ball home perfectly to seal the game! Goal!⚽️

With a brilliant team effort from all the girls Lola’s energy, skill and determination stood out.

League Game 6 – Lane Head Lionesses vs Lye Town Ladies

Not only did we face the challenge of Lye today, but we also faced the challenge of showing character and determination within the team from last week’s loss to Kiddy Harriers.
Thankfully the girls responded in the way we knew they could and that was show a dominant team performance against a very good Lye team.

1’ Goal!!! with 38 seconds on the clock, Lane head found themselves 1 nil up. Rolo winning a 50/50 challenge in the centre of the pitch found a delightful through ball for Niya to take a first time shot past the on-rushing keeper. Superb start!

7’ Lane head double their lead! Crystal with a 30-yard free kick that the keeper could only parry, fell kindly to the feet of Eesha who calmly side footed the ball first time in the bottom right corner. 2-0!

Lane head hand a handful of chances to make it 3 nil but couldn’t capitalise on some great chances created. The half time whistle blew with Lane head in a commanding position.

HT 2-0

The next goal was crucial in the game and Lye came out the blocks a different team with some of their players rising their performance, more notably their striker looking a real threat.

52’ NIYA! Great ball from Dami to pick out Niya just past halfway, an explosive run from Niya all the way into the Lye box riding the challenges from the Lye players hit a powerful strike which the keeper could only get fingers on, but the shot was too powerful to keep out – Great goal 3-0

54’ Goal for Lye – A quick response from the visitors to make it 3-1. A high looping shot looked to be under control from our keeper, but somehow it was dropped which fell kindly to a Lye player who played a simple pass to a team mate to tap in from 1 yard out. 3-1

68’ – Another goal for Lye! A high cross from the Lye winger evaded the defence and found the Lye Striker who calmy placed the ball in the corner from our on-rushing keeper – GAME ON! 3-2

84’ Goal for the lionesses – a free kick into the box from Crystal found Maddie who steered the ball towards goal with an accurate header, a well-deserved goal!

85’ Quick fire brace for Maddie, great link up play from Dami, Kaite and Maddie, Maddie hit a lovely side footed punch shot into the right side of the goal from 8 yards out. Keeper had no chance.

91’ Goal number 6 for the Lionesses. Some good hold up from Maddie at the edge of the Lye box, little side pass found Eesha who hit a sweet right footed strike that cannoned off the cross bar. Maddie collected it with her back to goal, played Lola in, one touch and bang! Beautiful left footed strike into the bottom left corner!

GOTG – Well done to Niya who scooped today’s award. A constant menace all game, great hold up play, great explosive runs and let’s not forget two goals! Well-deserved Niya!

Saturday was game day 5 and this time we had an early kick off away at Kidderminster Harriers. With the game looking like being called off after a significant amount of rain over night we were surprised that the pitch had held up. Kiddy kicked off with the sun shining for what looked to be an even match. Now fast forward 10 minutes and we were 0-3 down. A blistering start for kiddy and 10 minutes we would like to move on from. Defensively as a team we were left wanting and kiddy were clinical in their finishing. We managed to compose ourselves and the game started to settle down but on the half hour mark Kiddy scored again with a quick throw to a run behind and a cut back to an unmarked forward saw Kiddy’s 4th goal in the first half.

Half time came and it was unprecedented territory for the lionesses.

2nd half saw the lionesses we know, after a tough first half it was vital they presssed and gave Kiddy a game. The lionesses saw several chances to score and pressed for a consolation goal that might start a mini revival however this wasn’t to come and on the stroke of the final whistle kiddy scored their 5th goal of the game with a header from a corner which was guided into the corner of the net.

The second half display was stark contrast to the first, the girls kept their heads high and did not let the disappointment of the score line affect their play.

“In football you win as a group and you loose as a group, you devide the credit and the blame”.

Next game is nearly upon us and we go again! we thank Kidderminster Harriers for hosting the game and we will see you in a couple of weeks 🏆 ⚽️
