How often do you pick yourself apart?

If you're anything like me, probably a lot.

I've spent a lot of time this last few weeks reflecting. When we're chasing growth or going through periods of change, we often focus on everything we don't have, everything that's holding us back or everything that we need to do better.

What about what you do have?

I see so often in clients that when they feel awful mentally or are going through tough times, they pick apart their bodies. I'm no different.

When life's been s**t, I talk to my body appallingly.
Maybe you do the same.

I've committed to change. Stopping those thoughts, and switching them as best I can.

Maybe you see your belly bloat, but you don't see your toned arms.

Maybe you see your cellulite, but you don't see the 5kg you added to your back squat last week.

Maybe you see the ice cream you ate when you were sad, but not the five nutritious meals you prepped for your lunches this week.

You are not the worst parts of you. Physically or otherwise.

You are how you try to show up every day.

Stop talking s**t to yourself. You're awesome.

Or Push Ups. Or Squats. Or running. Or Olympic Weightlifting.

And then keep doing it.

So many clients come to be wanting to get their first pull up. Months later, when we're still doing banded pull ups, eccentric pull ups, bar hangs, lat pull downs, single arm rows and bicep curls......they say they wish they hadn't ever started the journey 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

Why?!

Because it's hard and it's boring. It requires doing a lot of the same thing. Getting pull ups takes time, patience and consistency.

Trusting the process and doing the hard work, along with some accountability WAY past the point you would have usually given up, means you WILL get there.

NB: then you have to work towards getting two 😫🤪

Today is my last day as a face-to-face Personal Trainer....

It's been almost 6 years since I started this career post Covid. From a CrossFit gym, to Koru, then InjuryActive Clinic, I've had many homes! Not forgetting the rugby club car park during that winter of lockdown 🥶

This career has taught me so much.

I've worked with youngsters, teenagers, Mums, Dads, couples, over 60s, and even over 70s. I admire every single person who takes their health and fitness seriously, wants to learn more about how to move their body, and will always find any spare moment in their busy lives for themselves.

All my clients mean so much to me 🥹

We've been through breakups, deaths, divorce, births, illnesses, recovery, house moves. Despite all of these things, they've kept showing up. I take a lot of inspiration from that.

The hardest decision I've ever made is to step back from the career that I love, the business I've built, the home that I bought, and the friends that I've made.

But sometimes you have to make the leap. And if there's one thing that I've learnt this last 6 years, it's that I'll always be okay....and I definitely have the leg strength to land on my feet 😂

As I take some time to figure out what's next for me in my new home of North Yorkshire, there are still opportunities to train with me.

I'll be building my online business with some of my current clients carrying on their journey. There's opportunities to have personalised programming, or follow a program that will get your results at more of a reduced cost. I firmly believe everybody should have the opportunity to learn to move their body without price being a barrier to entry....but most free programs don't keep you progressing and are way too complicated 🙄

It really should be simple.

If you're interested in still working with me online, send me a message or click the link in my bio.

Thanks for being part of this chapter of life ✌🏼👋🏼

Discipline 👊🏼

How disciplined are you?

Something that forms the basis of our education when we are younger, yet as an adult, something we very much have to self impose.

Motivation and will-power ebb and flow, and we can’t expect them to be constant, particularly when we’re embarking on any kind of diet, training regime or lifestyle change.

I make no secret of the fact that there are more times that I dislike training than there are sessions that I look forward to and enjoy.

5am wake ups, conditioning pieces, practicing skills I’m not good at, running in freezing cold temperatures, lifting heavy things.

Most of the time, you’re not going to want to do these.

But just like reading, writing, learning a new language or taking up a new sport, discipline needs to be practiced.

Flexing your mental muscles in this way is just as important as the physical ones.

How often do you talk yourself into a session, when it’s so much easier to talk yourself out of one.

Practicing discipline gets easier and more rewarding the more you do it.

Putting your phone down, prioritising protein, going out for a walk, sticking to your training schedule, getting up early, all these things will get easier the more you practice them.

Setting yourself these small mental challenges that you know will be tough builds resilience, good habits, mental determination and internal strength.
All of these transfer over into your day to day life, work, and your relationships.

Don’t expect results to come by themselves without practicing a little bit of discipline.

Believe yourself when you say……you’ve got this!
