Pre-season friendly result.
AFC Chelmsley Ladies 1 Coventry Godiva Womens Blues 4
Yesterday saw us return to the Onward Club for our first home pre-season friendly over the summer.
We were blitzed in the first 20 minutes by Godiva who took a quick 3 goal lead - two carbon copies of us not clearing our lines quickly defensively in the middle, and then a cross-cum-shot which looped into the far post.
We made a triple change at the first hydration break, and all of the three game-changers had a positive impact - Darla was communicative in marshalling the defence, Kelly shored up the right back spot, and Taylor was disciplined as a CDM.
We managed to pull one back before half-time with a well worked goal starting from Elle, through Jodie, and then Trin crossing for Jade to nod the ball in at the far post. HT 1-3.
It was stalement for the next quarter of the game, with a nasty looking injury to Lacie, who hopefully will be back soon. In the final stages, we went three at the back in search of a goal, leaving us vulnerable to the counter, and Godiva got a fourth to kill the game. We had a couple of late chances to make the scoreline closer, but were ultimately beaten by our defensive display in the opening 20 minutes. FT 1-4.
We wish Godiva Blues all the best for their season in Division 2. We'll meet their White team later in our season in Division 3.
Players of the Match were all our substitutes - Taylor and Kelly joint winners, with Darla a close third.
