Developing harmonic strength. 😇🌀

In this exercise the focus is on transferring weight from side to side in tempo with a walking beat of 38bpm. 🥁

The leg and core muscles engage to move the body’s centre of gravity with a pendulum motion (the hips rotate to make the pendulum motion possible). 💪

The phenomenon of simple harmonic motion transfers the energy of the body’s pendulum motion into a rotational swing of the shoulders, which are kept as relaxed as possible.

The resistance is low (1-2 kg force) and enables the muscles to engage and feel how to generate a natural swing for golf, tennis, hockey, baseball and many more! ⛳️ 🎾 🏑 ⚾️

Developing both actual and perceived “muscle elasticity” is important for all sporting movement. This is particularly important at the start of a motion or when there is body weight shift to change rotational direction eg in a sports swing.

When a sportsperson describes “losing the feel” for a movement it is this aspect of muscle elasticity which is crucial in regaining tempo.

The feeling the body experiences when providing easy, elastic rotational energy in a sports swing is very important to improving sporting performance. One key aspect of the sports swing is the transition from backswing to downswing (or through swing). This is normally properly instigated by the weight being moved in a direction which changes the rotational direction of the body with the sensation of an “elastic stretch/feel” (when done properly). This transition is very subtle and slow(!) and importantly the forces experienced at this point of the transition are very light (in the video between 0.1kg force and 3kg force), but then quickly build as the transition speeds up.

The Musher in use with an appropriate elastic resistance enables the body to get a feel for this elastic sensation and also enables the lower body (which is managing the weight transfer) to properly sequence the muscle engagement through the core into the muscles which perform the key aspect of the ultimate acceleration/speed. Importantly, The Musher minimises the muscle engagement of the hands and arms so the rotational stretch can be properly experienced.

Use of The Musher with the new and emerging digital cable technology is a step change opportunity for improvements for rotational exercise – Why? Because personalised, rotational resistance plans can bring great benefits to individual requirements.
