MUSCLE MEMORY

Ever wondered why an exercise feels awkward at first but becomes second nature over time?

That’s muscle memory.

Despite the name, your muscles aren’t actually doing the remembering. Your brain and nervous system are constantly learning movement patterns and building stronger connections every time you practise.

The more consistently you repeat a movement, the more efficient your body becomes at performing it.

This is why:
Exercises become smoother,
Technique improves,
Confidence grows,
Performance increases.

The secret isn’t perfection it’s repetition.

Small, consistent efforts repeated over time create lasting change.

Your body remembers more than you think.

Have you ever stopped exercising for a while and found that your strength or skills came back quicker than expected?
That’s muscle memory!

Sleep is more than just rest it’s recovery.

While you sleep, your body is busy repairing muscles, restoring tissues, rehydrating spinal discs, and clearing waste from the brain. This is one of the reasons quality sleep is so important for performance, recovery, and overall wellbeing.

If you’re training hard, dealing with aches and pains, or recovering from injury, don’t underestimate the power of a good night’s sleep.

FUEL YOUR PERFORMANCE FROM THE INSIDE OUT.

Did you know that the foods you eat can play a key role in energy levels, recovery, and athletic performance?

Healthy red blood cells help transport oxygen around the body, supporting endurance, recovery, and overall physical performance.

Some foods that can support this include:

Spinach – a good source of iron,

Beetroot – rich in nitrates that may support exercise performance,

Eggs – provide protein and vitamin B12,

Dates – a natural source of carbohydrates for energy,

Nuts – contain healthy fats, minerals, and nutrients that support overall health.

While nutrition alone won’t prevent injuries, ensuring your body is properly fuelled can help optimise performance, recovery, and resilience during training.

As sports therapists, we often focus on movement, rehabilitation, and recovery but good nutrition is an important part of the bigger picture.

Men’s Health Week.

This Men’s Health Week, it’s a great reminder that your health matters too.
Many men are great at looking after everyone else but often put their own wellbeing last. Whether you’re a partner, brother, son, friend, or colleague, taking care of your body and mind isn’t selfish it’s essential.

Keep moving – Regular physical activity helps maintain strength, mobility, and overall health.

Prevent injuries – Don’t ignore aches and pains. Early treatment can prevent small issues from becoming long-term problems.

Look after your mental health – Exercise, social connection, and talking openly about how you’re feeling can make a huge difference.

Get regular check-ups – Prevention is always better than cure. Make time for routine health screenings and seek advice when something doesn’t feel right.

Being healthy isn’t about being perfect it’s about making small, consistent choices that help you stay active, strong, and able to enjoy life.
This Men’s Health Week, let’s encourage the men in our lives to prioritise their health and wellbeing.

Skipping chest day might seem harmless, but building a strong chest is about more than just aesthetics. Chest workouts improve upper-body strength, posture, balance, and overall performance in the gym. A well-trained chest supports pushing movements, helps prevent muscle imbalances, and contributes to better shoulder stability.
Nothing completes a physique like a solid chest workout. Whether it’s bench press, push-ups, or dumbbell flyes, chest day deserves the same energy as leg day and arm day.
Train smart. Stay consistent. And never skip chest day.

World Environment Day – 5th June

At our clinic we believe that movement, health, and wellbeing are closely connected to the world around us.

Whether it’s a morning run, a walk in the park, or outdoor sports and exercise, nature plays a vital role in keeping us active and healthy.

Today, we’re celebrating World Environment Day and encouraging everyone to take a small step towards protecting our planet because a healthier environment helps create healthier communities.

SHIN SPLINTS: DON’T IGNORE THE WARNING SIGNS

Experiencing pain along the front or inside of your shin when running, jumping, or training?

You may be dealing with shin splints a common overuse injury that affects runners, footballers, and athletes of all levels.

Common causes include:
Increasing training volume too quickly,
Poor recovery between sessions,
Changes in training surface,
Weakness in the calves and lower leg muscles,
Inappropriate or worn-out footwear.

One of the biggest mistakes athletes make is trying to “run through” the pain. While some discomfort may seem manageable, persistent shin pain can lead to more serious injuries if left unaddressed.

When should you be concerned?
If your pain becomes more severe, is focused in one specific spot, or continues even when you’re resting, it may be more than just shin splints and should be assessed by a healthcare professional.

Recovery tips:
Reduce aggravating activities,
Gradually return to training,
Strengthen your calves and lower legs,
Prioritise recovery and sleep,
Ensure your footwear is suitable for your activity.

Remember: Pain is information, not something to ignore.
