🤠 We've got some VERY EXCITING news to share with y'all

🇺🇸 Billingham Juniors U13's have been invited to attend the prestigious Maryville University Elite Soccer Camp in Tennessee USA!

⚽ Ex Billingham resident Jon Baker, now heads up one of the programmes at the college, but has never forgotten his roots and is looking to give back to the Billingham community by offering 20 of our players a place at the Camp

💰To get there, our lads have committed to some serious fundraising in order to cover flights, insurance, transport and kit and over the next few months will be walking or running the 6365km between Teesside and Tennessee, but we need you're support and donations to keep spurring them on and securing the £40,000 funds needed!

👫 Our parents will also be running tombolas and blind cards to support the team and make sure they get to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity!

After a well deserved end of season break, the Lions were back at it today for a tournament hosted by FC Hartlepool. The Lions won this round robin style tournament last year so expectations and emotions were high. Game 1 got off to a nervy started as the break showed with players out of position and passes not finding their man. It didn’t take them long to find their feet however after a determined run from Bobby allowed him to find the back of the net. With the wind in their sails Ozzy found another in quick succession to take the lead to 2. Hartlepool answered back with a goal of their own but solid defending kept the score at 2-1 and gave the Lions their first win.

Game 2 was a different match altogether. Despite going up against weaker opposition, the lads simply could not find the back of the net. On the plus side, they were defensively solid and never really looked like conceding as the game ended 0-0. It was then on to game 3 where the Lions showed their real selves. Crisp passing and movement was on display throughout which allowed for 3 confident goals to be scored. Henry bagged himself 2 goals with both being finished in classic, composed Henry style whilst Jude scored a belter of a goal which the Hartlepool keeper didn’t stand a chance of stopping.

With 2 wins and a draw it was on to the Cup final and another confident Lions performance. Jude got the team going with a delightful headed finish from a corner and potentially his best goal yet. At 1-0 the game still felt like it could go either way as FC Hartlepool turned up the pressure. Defenders did their jobs and played out from the back well. This allowed Ralfy to break free and play a brilliant ball through to Henry who finished in true Henry style right across the keeper. A 2 goal advantage in the final was enough to see the Lions home and win the tournament for the second year running!

A brilliant all round team performance today from both the Lions and the coaches. A special mention to coach Tom who has been fundamental in turning a team of lads who like to kick a ball about into a formidable team who have been a real threat all season. Today was a brilliant way to end the season and the lads did the coaches proud with their effort and attitude in every game. Well done Lions!

The Lions travelled to Hartlepool for the final time today for their last game of the season against FC Hartlepool Girls. After a cold but purposeful warm up it was a positive start. Lots of good passing and movement meant chances were created but Hartlepool were always posing a threat. Hartlepool took advantage of the Lions confidence and forced a lead after 15 minutes. Never the ones to let their heads drop, the Lions pressed on. Despite the pressure the lads maintained their composure and saw out the half with everything still to play for at 1-0.

The second half was a different story as it was all Hartlepool for the first 20 minutes. Up against it and in danger of Hartlepool running away with the game, Arthur threaded an insightful ball forward that Jude got on the end of and earned a corner under pressure. After a goalmouth scramble, the ball was smashed home by Ali to even things up with 10 minutes to play and raise the Lions heads. Despite pulling themselves back in to the game they had to settle for a well earned draw as the score remained 1-1.

An absolutely brilliant result for the Lions today against the league winners and high quality opposition. The Lions have been a formidable side on the road this season having only lost one game away from home so today’s draw felt like a win. Player of the match went to Ali for taking the game by the scruff of the neck and making sure the Lions finished the season with the same grit and determination they have shown throughout. An absolutely outstanding end to a season where so much progress and effort has been on display. The lads and the coaches can go in to the summer break with their heads held high as they have become a formidable side and have pulled together to be a team to watch moving forward. Up the Lions!!

The Lions penultimate game of the season arrived today away against Saltburn Athletic. It was a sharp start from the lads with tight passing and movement allowing for free play in the Saltburn half. Joe provided constant runs up the wing for Arthur to pick out with prescise passing. The sustained pressure was too much as Bobby danced through the midfield to find Henry who took his time to measure the keeper and force the Lions ahead.

The pressure was mainted with chances created again and again through the Lions passing precision. A deflected cross fell to Arthur who hit a speculative effort that floated over the keeper and in to make it 2-0 at half time.

Another organised and positive start to the second half lead to free movement of the ball again. A lovely passage of play saw the ball moved around at will until Henry found Arthur who pulled the trigger to make it 3. With confidence flowing, another period of Lions pressure was relieved by a corner. Lofted in to the box and helped by the wind, Ralfy managed to best a goal mouth scramble to flick the ball past the keeper to make it 4. Not content, the Lions kept the pressure up. A trademark Chizzy throw found the box and a lovely little flick on from Jack to Henry who made his run at just the right time to smash another home for 5-0. Whilst 5 would normally be enough, the Lions continued with the same energy and momentum they showed the entire game. With 5 minutes left, a determined run from Henry was finished well and the ball trickled past the keeper to make it 6. This still wasn’t enough as Ralfy managed to grab another just before the final whistle to seal the game at 7-0 for an emphatic win today.

Despite facing a depleted opposition it can’t be understated how well the Lions played today; displaying a marked improvement in their passing, movement and quality of football. Player of the match today went to Ralfy whose determination bagged him 2 goals. A brilliant all round performance from the whole team today and a promising run up to the final game of the season! Well done Lions!
