Sometimes the simplest of tasks feels too much for your horse! 🫣 Sometimes it’s one of those days. Sometimes it’s best to just say…” Do you know what… today is not the day!”

I said I would do a post with 3 things to help with your horse’s knobby behaviour at the moment! The weather has turned a bit and maybe their routine has changed so obviously that brings out their ‘character’ !! 1) Relax your shoulders. Our posture determines our nervous system. 2) Breathe. Inhaling through our nose and out of our mouth calms our nervous system and enables us to focus 3) Bribery… it is extremely important to have treats on you at all times to bribe, distract and give!! A must in my professional tool box!!

Do you agree!? Is your horse’s behaviour a bit more challenging now you’re turning out in day instead of night? I’m going to do a post with techniques on how to remain a little more calm when your horse is perhaps being a little bit of a pickle!! The change over of routine always throws their behaviour a little!!

Look at how this pony is opening her shoulder and engaging her hocks and core.

Here’s a question… What polework exercises would you use with this polework setup?

Last night I had 8 lovely riders working on different exercises to improve upper body positioning and posture. We also worked on getting vision up and over poles to improve preparation and line. It’s the rider’s job to present the horse on a good line and at the correct speed and impulsion then it’s the horse’s job to go over poles or jump. Something I learned from the very amazing Show Jumper Ernest Dillon about 38 years ago!!! 😳 The less we interfere with the horse’s balance the better. The smaller and quieter we can make our aids the better. This is why working on your posture and position off the horse is so important.

We also worked on balancing the horse with outside aids. Something that often gets forgotten.

We also worked on rhythm, balance , lines, shoulders, heels, eyes, elbows, pelvis!!!!! WELL DONE EVERYONE 👏🏻
