ONE OF OUR OWN!
Today, we want to say a massive thank you to Coach Marcus, who after today will be moving on to an exciting new chapter as he begins his apprenticeship as an electrician.
And for us, this isn’t just saying goodbye to a coach.
It’s saying goodbye to one of our own.
Marcus first came to our football camps way back in 2013, when he was just 7 years old.
He became a regular face at our camps, attending the majority of our half-term camps year after year.
He then progressed into our development teams, where he represented JCSS at tournaments at Charlton Athletic and Reading FC, before captaining our team to victory at the tournament at the King Power Stadium. 🏆
Eventually, Marcus became too old to attend our camps as a player.
But rather than saying goodbye, he started helping out.
And then, eventually, we offered him a job.
And what a decision that turned out to be.
Since becoming a coach, Marcus has absolutely thrived.
His enthusiasm is second to none. His energy is infectious, and he has always gone above and beyond to make sure every child who comes through our doors feels welcome, included and valued.
He has this brilliant ability to make children feel like superheroes. 🦸♂️⚽️
Over the years, Marcus has helped so many children improve their football, but his impact has gone far beyond that.
He’s helped children build confidence.
He’s encouraged them when they’ve struggled.
He’s celebrated them when they’ve succeeded.
And he’s created countless memories for children who probably don’t realise just how much of an impact he’s had on them.
And then, of course, there’s Gunter… his German brother. 🤣🇩🇪
That alone deserves its own post.
But jokes aside, Marcus has been a huge part of JCSS over the past few years.
Not only is he a fantastic coach, he’s a genuinely fantastic human being.
He’s got a heart of gold.
For the first time since Marcus walked through our doors as a 7-year-old in 2013, he won’t be part of our September setup.
Not as a player.
Not as a helper.
Not as a coach.
That’s 13 years of being part of JCSS.
We’ve literally watched him grow up.
We’ve watched him develop as a player.
We’ve watched him become a leader.
We’ve watched him become a coach.
And we’ve watched him help inspire the next generation of players.
We couldn’t be prouder of him.
Marcus, we genuinely can’t thank you enough for everything you’ve done for JCSS.
Thank you for your hard work.
Thank you for your enthusiasm.
Thank you for the laughs.
Thank you for the memories.
And thank you for the countless children you’ve helped along the way.
Although we’re going to miss you massively, we’re incredibly excited to see what comes next for you.
We wish you every bit of success in your new career as an apprentice electrician.

From a 7-year-old boy turning up to his first football camp…
to a player.
To a captain.
To a helper.
To a coach.
And now onto his next chapter.
What a journey it’s been.
