Isn’t technology amazing? 🦻

This is Justine with Flash. Justine is profoundly deaf and has a cochlear implant, and at last year’s camp she understandably found it quite difficult to hear me clearly whilst riding.

This year, we were able to try something new - a small microphone linked via Bluetooth through her phone directly to her implant - and what a difference it made.

It worked brilliantly! Justine was able to hear instructions much more clearly, take things on board more quickly, and as a result made some really lovely progress over her sessions. She also used it with the jumping coach, which meant she could get even more out of the whole camp experience.

It’s a great reminder of how much of a difference the right support - and a bit of technology - can make to a rider’s confidence and progress.

This little mic might be simple, but it had a big impact, and it’s something I’d be more than happy to use again to help support riders where needed.

I have availability at two upcoming Train & Test Riding clinics happening soon. Ideal for anyone looking to improve their flatwork, test riding and overall performance in the arena.

Train in a calm, supportive environment at my home yard.

📍 Thursday 11th June – Stourport Riding Centre
Held in the indoor international arena - perfect for practising in a more competition style setting.

These sessions are designed to help you:

✔️ Develop a more effective, tailored warm up for your horse

Becoming a Better Coach 🐴

Earlier this month, I completed the 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 - a really valuable experience and one I’m very grateful to have been part of.

The programme ran over six months, with a total of eight CPD days, working alongside 19 coaches from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds, from dressage through to show jumping. It was a great opportunity to share ideas, challenge perspectives and learn from each other.

Across the programme, we heard from a variety of expert speakers, covering topics such as sports psychology, mental health, neurodiversity, coaching reflection, nutrition and rider wellbeing. It’s a real reminder that coaching is about so much more than just what happens in the saddle.

As I’ve said before, we never stop learning as coaches and continuing to develop in this way is so important in making sure I can support all of my riders as effectively as possible.

I’m looking forward to putting what I’ve learnt into practice and continuing to build on it moving forwards.

Huge congratulations to Bea and Barclay! 🌟

Bea Rogers and Barclay were out at the NSEA Championships at Hickstead yesterday, where they achieved a fantastic 3rd in the Prelim and 7th in the Novice - especially impressive as this was her biggest competition to date.

Bea is a fairly new private client and also trains with me as part of the West Midlands Dressage Group, and she’s come on so much this year. At just 11, she’s really starting to catch the dressage bug, and it’s lovely to see that enthusiasm translating into her riding and results.

It was the first time I’ve warmed up a rider via video call, and it worked brilliantly. It meant I could support Bea without travelling all the way to Hickstead, whilst still coaching my other riders at home that day.

It’s definitely something I’ll be offering more of - a great example of how we can use technology to stay connected and support riders, even when we can’t be there in person.

Very well done again to Bea and Barclay - a great result and just the start of many more to come! 👏🐴

What a fantastic few days at camp! 🥳

This week I spent three days coaching at Bewdley Bridle Club Camp at Lincomb Equestrian, focusing on flatwork.

It was great to see everyone working so hard, with lots of progress made over the course of the camp. Riders really took the time to develop their understanding, and it was lovely to watch combinations grow in confidence and improve day by day.

Camps like this are always such a good opportunity to step away from the usual routine, focus on the details, and come away with a clearer plan going forwards.

There are plenty of opportunities to train throughout May, both at home and at local venues. Here's what's coming up this month:

Continuing to learn 👩‍🎓

I recently attended my third two day course as part of the National Development Programme for Coaching Excellence (NDPCE) and, as always, it was an incredibly valuable couple of days.

Each block brings a wide range of expert speakers, covering topics such as mental health, sports psychology, neurodiversity, coaching reflection, nutrition, fitness and overall wellbeing. It’s a real reminder that coaching goes far beyond what we see in the arena.

As coaches, we never really “arrive”. There is always more to learn, refine and understand. Continuing professional development plays such an important role in making sure we can support our riders in the best way possible, both in and out of the saddle.

It’s also a great opportunity to work alongside so many like minded coaches from different disciplines, sharing ideas and perspectives.

I’m already looking forward to the next two days in May and taking even more away to bring back into my coaching!

You might notice something new when you arrive next time 👀 …

After being long overdue, the drive has finally been resurfaced this week and what a difference it’s made!! 🙌

It’s now smooth, tidy and much easier for cars and trailers, which I know will be a welcome improvement for those coming in to train.

If you’d like an excuse to come and try it out, I’m teaching at home on Saturday (25th) with a Train & Test Riding clinic. It’s a great chance to get some focused, productive training in a relaxed setting, with sessions tailored to suit you and your horse.

Whether you’re looking to refine your test riding, improve your horse’s way of going, or simply build confidence, you’ll come away with plenty to take forward.

It’s been so lovely to see so many of my riders out and about achieving great things recently! 🌟

In particular, a lot of my young riders have been having a fantastic time getting out competing, and I couldn’t let the successes of these two pass by without a mention…

𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲 won U8’s at BD NW Youth Show. He’s a member of the West Midlands Dressage Group- WMDG that I coach alongside another trainer, Caroline Green. All the riders did fantastically well, with lots of rosettes and wins!

𝗠𝗼𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻, also a member of WMDG, came 6th in her section at The Pony Club Spring Festival. She only did her first dressage test on him in October and has worked really hard, and it’s starting to show. Really well ridden, as her pony Kevin has been a character, and she’s built an amazing partnership with him.

I always love seeing what my clients are up to and celebrating your successes, whether big or small. So if you’ve been out and about with your horses or ponies (it’s not just for my young riders!), please do tag me in your posts or send your photos over so we can give you a shout out too! 📢
