☀️Summer Solstice: The Turning Point: Dakshinayana

Sunday, 21 June 2026, the sun reaches its highest point in the sky for the whole year — then pauses, and begins its slow journey south.

In yogic tradition, this moment marks the start of Dakshinayana (दक्षिणायन), the "southward" half of the year. If the months after the winter solstice are about outward energy and expansion, this next phase invites us inward — towards introspection, stillness, and steady practice.

It's often called the "night of the gods" or Devatas. An invitation to turn inward, soften, and let our practice deepen into Sadhana (spiritual practice) rather than push outward.

I'll be marking this turning point with a whole day at Knepp Rewilding Estate. A chance to reflect on the spaciousness of the last six months, and gently begin to meet the energy of the next six.

A beautiful moment to pause, breathe, and notice the shift 🌿

In preparation for the Summer Solstice, I thought I'd return to Sun Salutations. Surya Namaskar is more than a sequence — it’s a moving prayer.

Each pose carries meaning and a quiet reverence to the light within.

In this reel, I break down every pose and how each one guides us through grounding, rising, opening, and returning.

I love chanting the Sanskrit names. I find they help me draw my awareness inwards and deepen the mind-body connection.

A slow, reverent way to greet the day.

Sunday. A moment to breathe before the week begins. Exactly the right moment to think about trees.

Forest bathing isn't a walk. It's what happens when you stop rushing and let the woodland do its thing. Lower your shoulders,
Slow your breathing,
Remind your nervous system that it's safe.

Catherine and I are heading to Leith Hill on the 24th for an afternoon of exactly that, forest bathing, gentle movement, breathwork, and cream tea in the sunshine.

There are just a few spots left. Link in bio if you feel the pull.

Escape the noise.

Celebrate the Summer Solstice inside a hidden wildflower meadow.

If you are feeling exhausted by the mid-year rush, this is your invitation to slow down, breathe deeply, and reconnect with nature.

Join us at The Yoga Garden on the iconic Knepp Wilding Estate for a fully curated, all-inclusive day of restoration (11:00 am – 4:30 pm):

Celebrate: Summer Solstice yoga practice inside our handcrafted yurt

Nourish: Vibrant, Ayurvedic-inspired lunch (vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free)

Explore: A mindful nature walk through Knepp's rewilded landscape.

Restore: Restorative yoga and deep Yoga Nidra, backed by sleep science.

Close: Warm herbal teas, light snacks, and community

Spaces are strictly limited to keep this intimate. We have exactly 4 mats left.

"I don't want to leave."
Someone said this to me after class recently and I wrote it down immediately.
(MJ, my cat, clearly agrees.)

Because it's so true, and so often the real reason people keep coming back.
Not the hamstrings.
Not the Instagram pose.
The quiet.

The feeling of actually being in your body again. The hour when your brain gets a break from being in charge.

Mental health doesn't have a simple fix. But a consistent practice — showing up even when it's the last thing you feel like doing — builds something.

Resilience.
Capacity.
A soft landing inside yourself.

If yoga has ever been that for you, I'd love to hear it in the comments. 💚

Your nervous system is your superpower. These three poses activate the parasympathetic - your rest-and-digest response.
Try them tonight.

In yoga philosophy, the summer solstice marks a threshold — the peak of solar energy before the slow return to dark. The ancients didn't fear that shift. They celebrated it. 🌞

This month, I'm inviting you to meet the light in your own body. To notice what rises in you when the days are long. To practise not just on the mat, but in the woods, in the garden, in the quiet moment before everyone else wakes up.

June is a month for moving with nature — not against it. Who's in? ☀️

31 days of yoga for mental health — a month of gentleness, safety and support.
A month of slowing down, softening edges, and tending to the nervous system in small, steady ways.

This compilation is a little wrap‑up of the moments that held me:
the breathwork pauses, the grounding shapes, the quiet walks, the nature that reminded me to come back to myself.

May gave us a spotlight, but our mental health deserves care every month.
Awareness is daily.
Support is ongoing.
And we keep tending — together.

If you’d like to receive gentle wellbeing notes, seasonal practices and retreat updates, you’re welcome to join my email community — link in bio.

I’d love to know…
What was your favourite moment from the last 31 days?
