On probably the greatest pitch in any of the football leagues, Sunday morning saw Belper take on an Ockbrook side in good form, with the latter taking the 3 points in the last fixture between these two sides.
Athletic started the game with a point to prove and it was clear that the energy and intensity was there from the first whistle, with Belper dominating the first half. Nick Meakin opened the scoring with a tidy finish from the edge of the box to give Athletic a well deserved lead. The pressure continued and paid off as Luke Greenwood headed home from a corner to double the lead. If not for a handful of spurned chances, the lads could have found themselves 3 or 4 up at half time.
Ockbrook started the second half well and Belper soaked up the early pressure with some good defensive work. Joe Bacon then latched onto a through ball before getting his shot away, a deflection left the ball in the air for Jared Holmes to nod into an empty net to give Athletic their 3rd of the day.
The rest of the game played out with relatively little action to finish 3-0. A great effort by the lads in difficult conditions.
After the Christmas break we return with a home fixture against Darley Abbey.
