Mackay Cup 1st Round
Beauly PS 6-1 Kirkhill PS
A great morning of shinty as Beauly welcomed close neighbours Kirkhill to Braeview.
In a match played with enthusiasm and commitment by both sides Beauly came out on top and proceed to the next Round.
Sportsmanship, skill and endeavour were abundant from both teams throughout.
Both teams started the match keenly but it was Beauly who went into an early lead with a powerful strike from 15 yrds from Owen Evans.
The following exchanges were even as Kirkhill dug in, the next 15mins made for a very interesting match with both sides striving to get the next goal.
Beauly would get that goal, after some neat stick work Evie MacDonald shot the ball home from the edge of the box.
A 3rd goal (goal of the match) followed very soon after, with Freddie Aitchison picking the ball up on the halfway line, he dispatched a powerful shot which flew high into the net giving the Kirkhill keeper no chance.
With half time approaching Evie Machdonald scored Beauly’s 4th of the day, finding space well at the edge of the box and slotting the ball home with confidence.
In a spirited second half, Beauly struck 2 more goals, Evie MacDonald completed her hattrick with an excellent shot from 20yrds out on the angle, arrowing the ball into the far corner.
Beauly captain Murray Anderson was next to find the net, picking the ball up in the centre of the pitch, running forward and shooting from 20 yards, the ball took a slight nick off the stick of Luca Ross on the way through. Both players are claiming the goal and if we’re honest we would all do the same thing 😁
That proved to be Beauly’s final goal of the match, it wasn’t for the lack of trying but more the fine saves and calm clearances from Kirkhill Keeper Ollie Ferguson.
There were some fine battles all over the field, none more so than in the centre of the pitch where Max Ferguson faced up against Murray Anderson and subsequently Freddie Aitchison with all three players exuding the will to succeed. Murray and Freddie both scored but it wouldn’t be fair not to mention the performance of Kirkhill’s Max Fergusson who displayed excellent drive, determination, skill and exceptional clicking and blocking, ensuring the aforementioned pair had to be on the top of their game!
Kirkhill never stopped competing throughout the match and they got they’re rewards, after a fine move through the centre of the park Tor MacDonald rounded the Beauly goalkeeper and calmly fired the ball home, much to the delight of the away supporters!!!
Thanks to Karen and Kirkhill team for an entertaining match played in good spirits and we hope to meet again on the shinty field in the future.
Thanks to Harry and Hughie for taking up goal judge duties and to all the parents and supporters who cheered on both teams today.
Last but not least, thanks to Co-coach Barrie for managing and encouraging the players with his usual unwavering enthusiasm.
