Some of our supporters may have spotted a familiar face in training this week…
Whitburn Juniors are delighted to welcome Mati Zata to the club.
The midfielder joins Scott Woodhouse’s squad ahead of the new season and arrives at Central Park following - successful spell with West Calder United.
A product of the Rangers Youth Academy, Mati has also featured for Dundee United’s B Team and brings experience from spells with Dumbarton, East Kilbride and Bo’ness Athletic.
Primarily a central midfielder, Mati can also operate at right-back, adding further quality, energy and versatility to the squad.
Manager Scott Woodhouse commented:
“Mati was a player I was keen to bring to Whitburn because he has qualities that can really help this group.
His ability to carry the ball and drive us up the pitch is outstanding. He has the confidence to take players on, break lines and turn defence into attack, which is a real asset in the modern game.
He’s composed in possession, technically very good and always wants to be involved. On top of that, he’s got tremendous energy and fitness levels, allowing him to influence games from the first minute to the last.
The fact he can play in midfield or at right-back gives us excellent flexibility and adds real competition for places throughout the squad.
Just as importantly, he’s a good person with a great attitude and he’s exactly the type of character we want around the club. We’re delighted to welcome him to Whitburn and I’m looking forward to seeing what he can bring this season.”
