WHITEHEADS U15 RUNNERS-UP IN MONFEST

What a delight it was to arrive in Monmouth Fields on a sunny Sunday afternoon to see over two hundred youthful rugby players and their multitude of supporters ( not so youthful!) enjoying a feast of rugby.

Whiteheads fielded a strong team and qualified from their group stage with a ten all draw against Valley Ravens and a more convincing 15 to 5 victory against Barry. Scorers for Whiteheads in these two games were the ever-reliable Captain Tom(2), barnstormer Bill, and the well-known duo, Hugo and Harvey!

The matches were very fast and furious, and soon it was time for the Cup Final between Monmouth and Whiteheads.

The speed and passing skills of the home team outweighed the power of the Whiteheads forward-dominated game. The Steelers showed determination in defence and, thanks to strong tackling by Ioan and Caiwen, were still in the game until two late tries by Monmouth gave them a 20 points victory.

This was an encouraging conclusion to the season. The coaches have worked very hard to maintain morale and momentum in this disrupted 25/26 year, and this result was just reward for their efforts.

As for the players, well done young men - just maybe, two ideas to work on for the future: better discipline and lower tackling!!
