Holker old boys 4 - 2 ibis

Holker travelled to Kendal Sunday with key players Evan, Josh, Lennon and Jake missing for a variety of reasons.

Holker we’re still able to field a strong side and started with:

1. Jude Hurley
2. Mylo Coulton
3. Luke Crellin
4. Jude fletcher
5. Archy Wood (c)
6. Harry Nugent
7. Jack Welsh
8. Archie Ure
9. Lewis Bell
10. Ben Hall
11. Walt Sugars

12 Kieran bannister.

Holker having had a limited pre-season and only one friendly game started surprisingly strong in the early stages and played some excellent football and dominted the game.

Harry Nugent and Archy wood were dominant at the back and both Ben Hall and Lewis Bell looked extremely dangerous at the top of the pitch.

Holker opened the scoring after just 5 mins when the impressive Lewis slipped Ben hall in who fired a shot in the bottom corner from the edge of the box 1-0.

For all holker dominance and possession Ibis were looking dangerous on the break and indeed a break on the right hand side led to the equaliser - an overhit cross nestling in the far top corner of the net in the 15th minute leaving Jude Hurley will no chance 1-1.

The introduction of Kieran Bannister after 20 minutes shifted the game back in holkers favour. Having been out injured since March the pace and link play with Lewis bell was causing all sorts of problems and within minute Lewis had struck the post and after finding himself 1 on 1 firing just wide.

After 32 minutes holker regain a deserved lead when Archy wood played a sublime through ball from the back and Kieran ran through, beat the last defender and fired a left footed shot into the far corner 2-1.

Half time holker 2-1 ibis

5 minutes into the second half Holker opened up a 2 goal lead when Lewis was playing in behind by Luke and he slotted the ball past the keeper 3-1.

Ibis however weren’t lying down and responded in the 50th minute with a deflected goal again leaving Jude with little chance to save.

Holker again opened up a 2 goal lead when a gear Walt corner was headed home by Keiran giving him 2 goals on his return.

On the 60th minute Keiran left the field and with Jude fletcher ill and a number of players struggling for legs ibis took over the game and were dominant in the last 20mins.

With Holker leaving Lewis up top on his own ibis bombarded the holker goal winning corner after corner and forcing Jude Hurley into a number of good saves.

Holker held firm with a number of key headers and block from Archy and Jack and some relentless closing down by Archie Ure, Walt and Ben.

Indeed twice in the second half Lewis beat multiple defenders to hit the bar and narrowly slot a 1 on 1 wide and Walt continuing to keep hold of the ball and try to play football.

The whole team put their bodies on the line with last ditch tackles and blocks enabling them to see out the rest of the game and hold on for the 4-2 win.

It was great to see Jude fletcher making his debut and the return of Kieran after so long out.

Man of the match was an extremely difficult decision with so many great performances but a joint award was given to Harry Nugent who was superb at the back and didn’t put a foot wrong and Archie Ure who when the team was struggling near the end covered every blade of grass.

Ibis 2-3 holker

Holker met ibis in Kendal on Sunday and came away with a hard fought victory against a spirited Ibis team.

Harry Clyde
Jack welsh
Josh Smithson
Archie Ure
Ben hall
Lewis bell.

Subs

Holker started the game really poorly and were 2nd to every ball in a terrible first 10 mins which resulted in a free header from a corner giving ibis the early lead.

This seemed to wake the Holker team up and they started playing some better football, playing through the midfield and getting in behind the ibis defence. The pressure soon told and resulted in a goal at the back post from Walt levelling the game.

Holker now had the upper hand with Archie and Josh beginning to dominate the midfield and Ben linking the play up front.

The 2nd goal soon came when a loose ball fell to Ben 25 yards from goal and he rocketed a right foot shot into the top corner and the half finished 2-1 to Holker.

Frustratingly Holker started the 2nd half like they were out for a Sunday stroll and ibis made them pay with a 25 yard shot looping over Jude 2-2.

With 20 mins to go Holker were to lose both Archy and Evan their centre halves to a rugby match meaning some major reshuffling of the team with Jack and Harry nugent moving to centre halves Lennon into midfield and Ben to left wing back.

With minutes the enforced changes had a positive effect with the impressive Lennon fed the ball by Ben on the edge of the box and he curled a beauty which crashed into the bar before settling in the back of the net.

The last 15 minutes saw a level of intensity from holker which had been missing for large parts of the game - josh Archie Lennon and Harry c worked tirelessly to gain the ball back closing down and defending from the front.

Both Jack and Harry N didn't put a foot wrong in the defence and Holker closed out the last 10 mins extremely well and didn't look in any danger.

Man of the match was Lennon who provided quality amongst some very good defensive performances in the 2nd half.

Next match - Wednesday 16th April away to whatsfield

Milnthorpe 3 - 3 holker old boys

Holker met Milnthorpe away on Tuesday 8th April and came away with a deserved point.

Holker went away to Milnthorpe missing a number of players taking only a squad of 12

Holker started the match on the front foot and went ahead in the first 5 mins when Lewis latched on to a defensive error and ran in behind to smash it beyond the keeper 1-0.

Holker were struggling to play their normal game on an extremely difficult pitch. With the ball bobbling all over they started to play more direct than normal although with Lewis a constant threat up top this was causing Milnthorpe plenty of issues.

20 mins int the first half milnthorpe equalised with a huge slice of luck - a bobble on an attempted cross being sliced over the keepers head into the goal.

25 mins Holker regained the lead when a long ball was allowed to bounced and Lewis ran through the defence and was brought down by the keeper. Walt calmly ticked the ball away for a 2-1 lead.

At this stage Holker looked comfortable. Evan Archy and mylo rarely being troubled at the back and Josh Jack and Archie comfortable in midfield. Harry clyde playing some nice one 2s and Walt a threat on the other flank.

Half time 2-1.

If holker were the better side in the first half it was clear that the second half was going to go Milnthorpes way from the the restart.

10 mins into the second half a powerful shot from 25 yards flew into the top corner for a deserved equaliser. 8 mins later and Walt was harshly adjudged to have fouled a Milnthorpe player in the area and they converted the penalty for a 3-2 lead.

Holker were fortunate not to concede a 2nd penalty soon after. Losing the impressive Ben for 10 mins with a knock and then Evan having to come off for the last 10 mins didn't help a depleted side playing their 3rd game in 3 days.

With mins remaining however Holker dig deep and another ball over top led to the ever impressive Lewis firing an equaliser into the top corner 3-3.

A point was not the result Holker needed in their effort to win the league however the effort and resilience shown by the team was exceptional with players carrying injuries and looking tired after so many recent games.

Man of the match was Lewis who scored 2 and won the penalty for the 3rd and was a real menace all day to the Milnthorpe defence.

Holker met bottom of the league Ambleside today at Rakesmoor Lane today and came away with a solid if unimpressive 5-2 victory.

Holker started the opening minutes on the front front breaking through the Ambleside defence at will and took the leave in just the 2nd minute when Ambleside failed to clear a Lewis cross and Walt beat his marker to smash the ball into the net giving Holker the early lead.

Holker creates a number..... and missed a number of chances in the opening 10 mins with the impressive Ambleside goalkeeper saving one on ones from Lewis and Jake with Walt putting another chance wide of the post.

Holker then seemed to take their foot off the gas and continually gave the ball away bringing the ball out from the back. Only a couple of great saves from Jude maintaining the Holker advantage.

12 mins in the Holker lead was cancelled with a great bit of skill from the Ambleside striker resulting in a great goal 1-1.

That goal seemed to liven Holker up and they retook the lead 2 minutes later with a Josh flick on from a corner eventually finding Luke who finished smartly.

Holker continued to create and miss chances but with mylo jack and Luke looking solid at the back it looked a matter of time before Holker increased their lead. A great Harry clyde through ball sent Lewis through but again the goalkeeper was more than a match for the finish.

With Holkers outstanding midfielder Josh "having a rest day😂" it took the introduction of the substitutes to liven Holker up and just before half time a solo run from Evan set up Harry nugent for a long range strike 3-1.

With the exception of Jake and Archie who were working tirelessly Holker again took their foot off the gas and were not playing as well as they would like. That being said great break down the left from Lewis after a great Ben through ball said Harry nugent strike for his 2md and the teams 4th goal.

Ambleside soon broke and managed to pull the score back to 4-2. Holker were back to playing in first gear and looking like throwing away their lead. The impressive Jake was still causing no end of issues for the Ambleside back line with his aggression and tireless running off the ball.

With 15 mins to go Jake got his rewards with holkers 5th from another Evan assist. He also broke through minutes later and rocketed a shot against the woodwork.

As the game petered out holker finished the game a worthy winner although they will admit they were far from impressive for large parts of the game.

Mana of the match was Jake Tyson whose workrate caused Ambleside problems all morning.

Holker old boy Alphas v Morecambe Hawks
Away
Mossgate community centre

Due to a BARLA rugby game and holidays Holker went into this game missing a number of key players with only one recognised centre half available.

Starting 11

Jude Hurley
Mylo Coulton

Luke Crellin
Lennon Halsall
Josh Smithson
Archie Ure
Harry Clyde
Ben hall

Holker started the game in a lethargic mood which seem to last most of the first half. Stand in centre backs Jack and Jake started well and Holker were playing out from the back well if not causing the opposition too much trouble.

Morecambe took the lead in the 6th minute when a long free kick escaped the Holker keeper and ended up in the back of the net 0-1.

Holker although having a lot of possession with Josh, Archie and Harry were still struggling to break down a resolute Morecambe defence and despite creating a number of chances came in at half time 1-0 down.

The second half started better with a few tactical changes and Holker were now dominating the game - Morecambes only threat coming from long balls which were comfortably dealt with by Jack who was winning all Ariel duels and mylo sweeping in behind.

Lennon was beggining to dictate play in the middle of the park and it was a matter of time before a goal came ....... it did for Morecambe - robbing the ball in midfield and pouncing to make it 2-0.

This had a massive effect on Holker who seemed to wake up - albeit with 25 mins to go and the rest of the game was wave after wave of holker attacks - chances were being created almost at will and unfortunately were not taken.

With 18 mins to go Holker finally got the breakthrough and Lennon played a great ball across to Lewis who smacked it in 2-1.

Holker then missed 2 more one on ones and were cutting through Morecambe at will. The equaliser came with 4 mins remaining when Jake battled to win the ball in the penalty box and Harry clyde smashed in the winner.

Holker laid siege to the Morecambe goal but just failed to get the winner they probably deserved.

Man of the match was stand in centre half and capt Jack who won everything in the air throughout the game and also Lennon who was responsible for most of the creativity going forward.

Holker met a strong Halton side this afternoon having struggled with player availability and carrying a number of knocks into what was always going to be an extremely tough game.

With key players Evan, Walt & Lennon missing Holker still fielded a strong side and expected to get something from the game.

A change in formation with players playing in unfamiliar positions lead to a disjointed first 20 minutes for Holker who struggled to get their passing going against a fast aggressive opposition. Halton opened the scoring in the 10th minute having broke the offside trap and blasting home from an acute angle.

Holker pressed forward and started creating chances which unfortunately they just could not take.

Half time

Holker 0 - 1 Halton

Holker continued to create chances but failed to capitalise with Archie Ure blasting a shot off the bar and Kieran hitting the post.

Halton were always a danger on the break and with 15 minutes to go hit Holker twice on the break to go 3-0 up.

With 2 minutes to go Keiran finally found the back of the Halton net but it was too little too late.

Although the Holker boys no's 1-12 all worked tirelessly they suffered their first defeat in the league this season.

Man of the match went to Archie wood who despite playing the game injured put in some excellent last ditch challenges and marshalled the defence well.

Next match is morecombe Colts at home 12pm ko next Sunday
