It was cup final day yesterday as we made the trip to Cartmel Cricket Club to face the hosts in the ICS Accounting Westmorland Cricket League 40 over final.
Cartmel won the toss and chose to bat first on a lovely sunny day at Cartmel Park. We made a good start with the ball and runs looked like they were hard to come by. Callum Muncaster, who missed the game the day before to play mini golf with Callum Lucas, got the breakthrough in the 8th over with the score only on 11. A couple of good overs for Cartmel followed before the introduction of the other mini golfer brought about our 2nd wicket with the score at 31. From this point the wickets tumbled on a regular basis and we eventually bowled the hosts out for 88, the rest on Saturday clearly doing wonders for the Callum's as they both finished with 5 wickets each.
Our response got off to a great start with Cartmel's nemesis from the league game a few weeks ago, the bus driver Dave Muncaster (30) getting off to a flier before departing with us on 41, Tom Stanwix then came and went the same over without troubling the scorers bringing Callum M to the crease. Callum got on with things as he usually does and finished the game off with a 15 ball 26 not out alongside another patient knock from Peter Thompson who finished 23 not out from 58 balls to end the weekend undefeated in either game.
The game was played in a fantastic spirit and Cartmel were excellent hosts, we wish them well for the remainder of the season.
Finally, a big shout out to huge supporter of the club and local legend Craig Burrows (father of T20 final star Buzzer and husband of former Tea lady Wendy) who is battling hard at home and has the love of the whole club - we’re all with you Craig ❤️
