Chorley Panthers were edged out in a thrilling contest by a determined Barrow Island side, as the visitors secured another impressive win on the road in a high-quality encounter.
The Island started the briahter of the two teams, setting the tone early with some outstanding defensive work that kept Chorley pinned in their own half Building pressure through disciplined sets, the Island moved the ball sharply through the hands, creating space out wide for Dom S to finish well in the corner and open the scoring at 0-4.
Chorley responded with intent, their forwards driving hard down the middle and testing the Island's defence. However, a series of unnecessary penalties from the visitors handed Chorley valuable field position. The pressure eventually told, as Chorley's fullback broke through to score before adding the conversion to edge his side in front at 6-4
Chorley continued to look particularly dangerous on the edges, especially down their left-hand side. where they repeatedly threatened to break through. However, Barrow Island's defensive line held strong, with Ben W producing a composed and intelligent defensive display, reading the play well and shutting down multiple attacking opportunities to keep Chorley at bay.
What followed was a tough arm wrestle through the middle, with both packs trading heavy carries and strong tackles. Barrow Island gradually regained momentum, showing resilience and composure. Their efforts were rewarded when Archy W finished off a well worked move to score, before calmly slotting the conversion to restore the lead at 6-10 going into half-time.
The Island came out for the second half with renewed intensity, dominating the early exchanges. Early pressure close to the line saw Ashy W power over under the posts for a deserved try, with Archy W adding the extras to extend the lead to 6-16.
To their credit, Chorley refused to back down. Their forwards continued to work tirelessly, gradually wearing down the sland's pack. This persistence paid off as they shifted the ball wide to their winger, who crossed in the corner to close the gap to 12-16 and set up a tense final quarter.
Barrow Island, however, showed real character and composure at a crucial stage of the match. Regaining control, they struck back through Archy W, who added another try and conversion. Moments later came the standout play of the game, as William P produced a stunning solo effort, racing 70 yards to score a brilliant try, with Archy W once again converting to give the visitors a commanding 12-28 lead
With only minutes remaining, Barrow sland began to play with freedom moving the ball expansively. While entertaining, it allowed Chorley to capitalise on a couple of opportunities, scoring two late tries to reduce the deficit to 24-28 and set up a nervy finish.
Despite the late pressure. Barrow Island held firm to secure a hard-fought and well-deserved victory. It was another great win on the road for the Island lads showcasing their resilience, defensive organisation, and attacking quality in a highly competitive fixture
