🔵⚪️ Barrow Island 50 - Leigh Miners 10 ⚪️🔵
Barrow Island U15s returned to action on Sunday after a six-week summer break and produced an impressive attacking display to record a 50-10 victory over a competitive Leigh Miners side at John Jefferson Park.
It was Leigh who settled quickest. An early Island mistake handed the visitors their first opportunity, and some quick hands released their winger to finish well out wide and give Leigh the early advantage.
That early setback seemed to spark the Island into life.
Once Barrow Island found their rhythm they took control of the remainder of the first half. Powerful carries through the middle from Innes S, Zosimo A, Levon E and Charlie D consistently put the side on the front foot, allowing the halves time and space to play. The Island showed plenty of composure with the ball, completing their sets and producing some excellent attacking rugby.
Ashy W opened the scoring for BI reacting brilliantly to a clever kick from Archy W. Walker S, making his return after a lengthy spell out through injury soon made his presence felt with some excellent support play and strong running lines to cross twice.
The Island continued to threaten from all areas of the field, with clever running from Luke C, Ashy W and Harry N causing problems for the Leigh defence. Archy W then got himself or the scoresheet, finishing in the corner following a superb flick pass from Ashy W.
One of the highlights of the half came from Pharrell C. Reading the play perfectly around the 30-metre mark, he pinched an interception before jinking his way past three defenders and racing underneath the posts for a brilliant individual try.
Despite the Island's dominance, Leigh again struck first after the restart. The Island were caught a little flat and the visitors took full advantage, working their way through before a well-placed kick created their second try.
Once again, though, the response from Barrow Island was emphatic.
Barrow Island quickly rediscovered their intensity, with some devastating running out wide and William P, Innes S and Ben W all making valuable metres. Pharrel C almost produced another spectacular interception try, racing around 80 metres before being hauled down agonisingly short. He wasn't to be denied for long however, weaving his way through the defence shortly afterwards to grab his second of the afternoon.
Walker S then added his third of the afternoon, running a good line and powering through the Leigh defence to complete his hat-trick on his return to action.
Leigh continued to compete and enjoyed a late spell of pressure. but the Island defence stood firm. One of the defensive highlights saw Leigh's powerful number 10 held up over the line by Innes S and Cody T, denying what looked a certain try.

Picking the ball up deep inside Island territory, Keiran B exploded through the Leigh line and produced a superb weaving run, beating defenders on his way to a sensational 90-metre try
Archy W then rounded off the scoring with his second try and 7th goal of the afternoon to put the finishing touches on an excellent team performance.
After six weeks without a competitive fixture, there was always going to be a little rustiness, particularly at the start of each half. But once the Island found their rhythm, they played with power, patience and real attacking quality combining strong carries through the middle with some excellent rugby on the edges.
Credit must also go to Leigh Miners who competed throughout and continued to ask questions right until the final whistle.
A really positive return to action for the Island lads and plenty to build on as we head into the closing stages of the 2026 season 🔵⚪️🏉
