Match Report: Llwycoed 2–0 AFC Bargoed

AFC Bargoed were left frustrated after a 2–0 defeat away to Llwycoed — a result that didn’t reflect the balance of play or the quality of chances created throughout the match.

From the opening whistle, Bargoed took control, showing real attacking intent and purpose. Early opportunities came thick and fast, with several efforts flashing just wide and one agonisingly clipping the post.

At the other end, Osian produced an excellent first-half save to keep the score level, denying Llwycoed from close range. Despite Bargoed’s dominance, the hosts took the lead midway through the half, converting one of their few ventures into the final third with a well-taken finish.

Their second came shortly after the restart — a well-worked move down the right-hand side that doubled their advantage against the run of play. While the scoreline suggested otherwise, Bargoed had been the better side throughout the opening period and were left to rue a number of missed opportunities.

The second half saw a strong response, with Bargoed dictating possession and applying constant pressure in midfield. Despite sustained spells in the attacking third, clear-cut chances were limited as Llwycoed defended deep to protect their lead.

In the closing stages, Bargoed came agonisingly close to pulling one back when Finley struck the post after another promising move.

Although the result didn’t go our way, there were plenty of positives to take. The team showed real energy, creativity, and togetherness — qualities that deserved far more than the final scoreline suggested. On another day, the outcome would have been very different. The key now is to turn our chances into goals.

Every player put in a shift, with standout performances from Maison, Lawson, Lewis, Braydon, and Caleb. The substitutes also made a positive impact, adding fresh energy late on.

This week’s Man of the Match goes once again to Lewis Bagstaff, for another composed and consistent display. Well done, mate.

The youth team travelled to Barry Islands pleasure beach Sunday just gone to take on Island Marine.

As soon as we got off the bus we could instantly see that this wasn’t going to be a easy game due to the pitch’s playing conditions and there being more grass of the 3G, the game kicks off and instantly we needed to try change the style of play from playing football on the floor and passing around to create openings to a more route one game due to the bumps on the pitch.

The first real chance came from Riley Small blasting the ball from around 40 yards out scrambling the keeper to make an exceptional same to keep the game at 0-0.

Island Marine then had a free kick right on the edge of the box what was leathered under the jumping wall for Osian to make a fine stop.

Harleigh Evans was then fouled also in a brilliant shooting position where left footer Aiden Carter steps up to try put The Youth into the league but just skims the top of the cross bar in a brilliant effort.

That concludes the first half solid first half performance from the midfield duo Joe Williams and Harleigh Evans. 0-0

Half time and the passing was the message play the route one we are unable to play football on this pitch, create the overlaps and get the ball into the box.

Second half gets underway and AFC Bargoed youth get a free kick 1min into the half with Caleb Pope putting in a lovely ball from behind the centre circle to Lawson Jones who heads it to Riley who ferociously volleys it just over.

The football is a lot better this half with the players understanding the gameplay a lot better.
In a tight contested game the second half was already proving to be better than the first.

76th minute saw a free kick from the right delivered into the box by Riley Small where the keeper came out and collected then pinged the ball down the neck of the centre backs thankfully Riley seen the potential threat and sprinted back after taking the free kick to clear the danger.
83rd minute seen another free kick delivered into from the same spot that just shy wide from a contested header by Kian Lewis.

Lewis was solid at left back for 90mins being tested often and consistently backing up him man of the match performance not to mention he was also brilliant going forward with the ball.

The boys continued their impressive unbeaten display this season with a 12-1 win against Carnetown. That’s 41 goals in 3 games.

In a game that took away more of the footballing ability than it should have despite looking sloppy in sectors it was a half decent performance.
