Will be back racing at East Fortune this weekend after missing the last few rounds, looking like it might be a hot one but don't want to jinx it😂

Should be the final outing of the year for us so gonna give this one a good go👌

C**k O' the North 2024

We've just had a pretty full on weekend at our first ever "Road Race", lap times weren't anything to write home about as was dealing with some bike issues and was just wanting to get comfortable with the track and learn the lines, also could have been in slightly better form going into it, was lacking a lot of seat time going into the event but that's just how things landed.

The nerves were going after the track walk on Friday when I saw how close some of the fences, trees and walls were to the track. The elevation changes were also way bigger in person, we were dying walking up some of these hills😂.

When we went for the newcomer laps on Saturday that all disappeared from my mind, when you're going at speed you don't really notice all the stuff around the circuit, you're just focusing on what's coming up next.
Overall track is absolutely mental man, honestly loved it. You get a proper buzz going over those jumps and dragging your knee on the grass.

This was also the first ever anti clockwise circuit I'd been at so we learned after the first day that I really needed to be using race shift to make it easier changing gears coming out the hairpins. So yeah I decided to learn race shift on Sunday at Oliver's mount, probably not the best place to first try it but got on well enough with it.

Also met lots a great folk and got plenty of good tips for riding and bike set up going forward so cheers to all you lot.

This isn't much of a race report, just sharing my thoughts of the weekend but definitely plan on going back. We're aiming to be at the Gold Cup in September so hopefully I can really push on during the next visit.

I have an even bigger respect now for those lads racing the roads on 600s and 1000s, hopefully in a couple years we'll be doing the same.

This weekend had it's ups and downs for sure...

Qualifying: P10
Race 1: P7
Race 2: P7
Race 3: Crashed
Race 4: DNS

Qualifying went alright, wasn't overly happy with 10th but since we had a couple fast people joining the class for this meeting I was expecting to be bumped back a little.

Weather was mint on Saturday, sun out and a dry track. Lots of close racing while managing to consistently lap in the 59s. Worked my way forward in race 1 to finish in P7, then held that position in race 2.

Sunday was the complete opposite. Cloudy, foggy and pi***ng it down. Don't think I've ever ridden in conditions as wet as that. Felt okay in warm up, just getting used to the feel of the wets again.

Race 3 started and it seemed like that was the heaviest the rain had been so far that day. Was struggling to see with my visor steaming up for the first few laps and dropped a couple positions because of it. After opening my visor half way I could finally see again, gained a few positions back and I think it was lap 4 or something when I was coming through the chicane, apparently I just touched the white line on the exit and the back just spun away instantly. Slid off into the gravel taking quite the beating, nothing broken just strained the muscles in my leg and took quite an impact to the hip.

Marshals were great in helping me and the bike, same with the medical team.

Frustrating to end the weekend on a bit of a downer but that's racing. Thankfully the bike isn't damaged that much, think i took most of the hits😂

Cheers to everyone for checking up on me, still had a great weekend👌

Bit of a different weekend, wish it went as well as the weather did.

Qualifying: P9
Race 1: DNF
Race 2: DNS
Race 3: DNF
Race 4: P8

This weekend didn't go as smoothly as last but still loads of fun. Some insane racing though, closest I've ever had, there was some slight elbowing going on but all fair as I accidentally started it😂

Crashed near the end of race 1 at the hairpin battling somewhere in the top 10, don't know exactly where I was since MyLaps was having issues in the morning. Started fixing the bike as soon as we came in hoping to make it out in time for race 2, but after a damaged bearing caused quite a delay we got it through scruteneering about a minute too late and just missed the start of race 2.

Race 3 on Sunday was a blast honestly, full elbows out racing. Some crazy passing going on but just brought us all on further, crazy how comfortable we are racing so close together. Was in P6 when I ran out of fuel at the chicane going onto the last lap, really wasn't happy with that but we were just cutting it too close with the amount of fuel we were putting in.

Race 4 I was just focusing on finishing at that point, I just wanted to get the last signature so I could get rid of the orange shirt. Managed that by finishing in P8, not too bad.

Finally have my national licence which means we can carry on with our plans to do something a little different later this summer.

A lot of great photos this weekend, especially the ones with me and my dad. Couldn't do it without him.

See you all at knockhill in 2 weeks👌

Last few photos from round 1, might need to print some eventually.

Time to get this race report done after a busy few days.

Qualifying: 7th

Race 1: 7th
Race 2: 7th
Race 3: 7th
Race 4: 5th

After a couple hours sleep from driving down late Friday evening we quickly got set up on Saturday morning for warm up. Nerves were high as I was preparing for qualifying, mainly just because I didn't want to qualify lower than where I finished last year. Went out and just did what felt like a semi fast lap, came back in after the session ended and saw that I qualified 7th. Considering my best result last year was 9th I was well chuffed with that haha.

The races on Saturday were mega, was also managing to chip away at lap times. I finished 7th in both of the races that day after going up and down in position throughout the entire race, pretty tiring.

Sunday went even better. First race of the day I messed up the start slightly and dropped back a couple places, wasn't happy with that so got my head down and gained the places back over the course of a lap or so. After doing that I still wanted to catch up with the guys I was battling with the day before so I just started to push that little bit harder and managed to set a new PB lap time of 59.5 seconds, my first sub minute lap. Caught up with them and finished that race in 7th for the third time that weekend.

The second race on Sunday was pretty similar, got a better start and was in a 3 way battle for 4th the whole race, lots of changing positions throughout but managed to come away with a 5th, also did another sub minute lap of 59.7 so it's good to know I can keep that pace up. I was happy enough with that for the final race.

Overall just a really constructive weekend. We learned loads, especially how much harder I can push the little CB. Starting to get really comfortable with the bike being out of shape and riding more aggressively.

We're aiming to continue to finish in the top 10 throughout the season but I'm really wanting to try get a 4th now, doesn't seem so far away anymore.

Most importantly, I can get rid of this fu***ng orange shirt next weekend🤣

First weekend back on a bike after about 5 months!

Saturday at knockhill was mixed conditions so just focused on getting comfortable again but Sunday at East Fortune was perfect albeit slightly windy.

Experimented a bit with technique and was lapping faster than the end of last year by the final session so I'm feeling pretty good heading into the first race weekend in a couple weeks.

Was great to catch up with everyone again.

Couple fancy pics from the weekend thanks to Pete Birrell and ABG Racing
