The 2018 Tigers lifted the cup at the Crumlin United John Stewart Memorial Tournament yesterday 🏆
The lads topped their group playing some excellent football throughout the day. A very mature performance from everyone, with some brilliantly worked team goals on display. The link-up play between Eoin, Lorcán and Bryson was a joy to watch, while the usual suspects of Alfie, Patton and Mattie were unrelenting at the back as always.
The semi final saw us come up against a very physical St Mary’s side. However, our lads stood up to the challenge brilliantly. Patton produced a number of outstanding last-man tackles to keep St Mary’s out, while Alfie seemed to win every ball that came his way. As the game wore on we began to take control, and Bryson stepped up when it mattered most, bagging himself two lovely goals to send us through to the final.
Under the lights, the final against Crewe United was a brilliant contest. A moment of quality between the two forwards broke the deadlock when Eoin played a clever short corner to Lorcán, who turned his defender and rifled the ball into the top corner. Crewe responded quickly with an excellent volley from a set piece of their own leaving the sides level at full time.
So it was penalties again for the Tigers, and once again Mattie proved to be the hero. Four outstanding penalty saves in a row gave the lads the advantage before Patton calmly slotted home a brilliant winning penalty to seal the win in sudden death 💪
Going unbeaten throughout the entire tournament, made it incredibly difficult to pick a Player of the Day as every single player played their part. In the end, all the coaches agreed that Mattie was the deserved winner. His performances in goal all day were outstanding, and his penalty shootout heroics were the difference when it mattered most. Well done Mattie 👏
A fantastic achievement for a fantastic team who have went from strength to strength this year ❤️
