Cookstown 100 race report.
James Walsh / Jbwracing 87
Official Cookstown 100 Group

A few days on after the 1st road race of the year,
1st one back after the Manx misshap last year it was great to get back to the circuit.
The weather was absolutely incredible with sunshine for the weekend. I don't remember a nice weekend like that in Cookstown in a long time 😂
Well done to the Cookstown club on organising and getting a great event running. Well done 🙏👏

I was out in support classes, Senior Support, Junior support and Supertwins on my next gen Triumph 765 and Aprilia RS660.

I was out on new machinery with little to no track time on them so was abit of an unknown set up wise, especially with the newly built Aprilia.

I want to say thank you to anyone who jumped in to give me a hand getting bikes and gear to the grid and helping out with that.
Very much appreciated as its tough going by yourself to do 🙈😅

Qualifying:
P1. Sen support
P2 Junior support
P16. Supertwins A

Races:
P2 Sen support
P5 Jun support
P18 twins

The weekend started off strong. I managed to get myself 1st Pole position on the roads with P1 in Senior Support which was incredible.

Junior was equally strong with P2 which I was not expecting tbh as the bike was horrendous to ride set up and handling wise, but still managed to push it.
Supertwins I tried to make changes to make the bike feel better but still way off.
Managed p16 in the A Supertwins and went quicker than earlier so that was good.

SATURDAY RACES.
1st up that morning was Senior Support A.
Starting on pole, I made what I felt was a decent start, considering I had never launched the 765 before.
Coming down to turn 1 i was outdriven by Brandon. From there it was a battle from P2 to try regain the lead and get the win, but unfortunately a throttle issue meant I was losing time out of road ends on power to get back to Brandon who was riding the socks off his 750. Also lack of bike fitness and flairing up of injuries meant it was a sore race.
Great race in the end and getting on the podium for the 1st run back was amazing.
Congratulations to Brandon on his 1st win. Absolutely flying it lad. ill get ya back next time I hope 🤞

Next was Supertwins.
Tbh this was a run out just to get info on the bike and set up for Junior support.
The Aprilia was terrible off the line and handling wasn't much better. Still p18 in the end.

Junior support was last up.
Starting p2, again got a sh*te start as only the Aprilia can give. By turn 1 I was back of first wave.
Managed to gain some places back at the end but not great p5.

Still overall it was a fantastic weekend back on the roads.
Alot of work to do to get the bikes set up now and go again but im excited for the season ahead.

Cheers RST for a fantastic set if airbag leathers that fit like a glove 👌 if you have a spare set going i could do with them as the last ones saved my ass as the Manxgp 🙏😅

If anyone is interested and would like to jump onboard with help and sponsorship it would be very much appreciated.

Thank you to the fantastic photography ♥️

Principal Insurance Masters Race report.

P8, P3, dnf
Just back from the opening round and my 1st race meeting in mondello for the Masters irish championship since the manx last year.
The weekend was a mixed bag of weather with rain sun and gave force winds 😂 but overall im happy with how it went. Abut rusty and stiff on the bike but going in the right direction.
I was just running in Supersport this weekend on my 675 Triumph.

Saturday qualifying and race one.
Starting 10th on the grid, dry race but extremely windy which made for very tricky conditions but was a fun race getting back into it finished p8 class.

Sunday.
Wet and damp conditions made for an interesting race 2 & 3.
Race 2 was brilliant, starting 11th i made a decent start and managed to pick my way up through the field in tricky damp conditions.
Had good battles out there with Joey and Will Burchell. managed to get myself up onto the podium with P3 which i was delighted with.

Race 3 I was starting 4th on the grid which gave a great position to battle for the top spots.
Had a good race running 3rd overall following behind shane and michael and hoping to pull them in. 4 or 5 laps to go, coming out of turn 1 in the damp conditions they caught me out and had a slow low side with the rear coming around on me and unfortunately putting an end to my run to the podium.
Disappointed with the way it ended when I was so close to the top but these things happen in tricky conditions.

Overall alot of positives getting a podium and putting in some very decent times in the conditions. Thanks to the lads for helping on the grid and getting me out there, very much appreciated.
Well done to all the WestCork Mcc racers over the weekend and newcomers who had a brilliant 1st outing.

Thanks Paddy Condron and Joe Connolly for the pics.

Onwards and upwards and looking forward to the 1st road race of the year for the Cookstown100

Weird watching worldsbk sportbike race with Kawasaki zx636 and cbr600r which are next gen supersport bikes able to race sportbike, up against Aprilia 660, yamaha r7, suzuki gsx8 etc.
What was a lower category now has a Kawasaki 636 winning.
Strange but seems good competitive racing from that 1st race with the electronics now.
Just weird especially with the 636 and cbr600 have to run in next gen supersport able to race sportbike now.

All the strange regs, supersport which was a 600 class running near 1000cc v2 ducati, 750 suzuki, 765 Triumph and 636 Kawasaki which runs sportbike.
My brain hurts ha.

A few days on from a fantastic trip to Cartagena spain with Thomas O Grady

It was my first outing on a bike since my crash at the Manx Grand Prix last August so to say I was abit rusty and not bike fit was an understatement but we got into the rhythm of things pretty quick.
Getting used to riding on track again and on a new bike definitely was a learing curve for the first day and I have to admit I was pretty sore after it but it felt great to be back on a crotch rocket again 😂😂

Bike confidence got better over the few days being alittle apprehensive to push out the blocks but we had a great gang of us together in the garage and on track with WestCork Mcc and Kevin for help getting suspension dialed up.

Come the last day I was feeling good on the 765 and times were showing it.
Still off where I want to be be feeling good ahead of pre season test and the start of the Masters championship and Cookstown then in April.

Can't wait to getgoing again.
Just to get the bikes stickered up and set up and we'll be ready to go 💪💪🔥🔥🏁🏁
