2A NAFL RESULT
Our first team hosted the current 2A champions at Ballyhornan on Saturday and the game lived up to the billing.
With 8 first team players currently unavailable, it was encouraging that we fielded such a strong team with a good mixture of experience and youth.
Newhill got off to a much better start and took the lead early in the first half after some lovely one touch football and a great finish from their very dangerous forwards.
Newhill by far the stronger of the teams in the first half but Celtic continued to work hard and a wondergoal from 30 yards from Mullan settled the Bhoys into the game. Newhill continued to press although Celtic did grow into the half but were unable to stop Newhill on the counter and they scored a header from the cross just before the break and set the game on for a brilliant second half were Celtic would have the advantage of the wind.
Celtic came out and dominated proceedings early in the second half and continued to do so for most of the second half and it was almost role reversals from the first half. Mullan broke through and clipped a ball off the bar and the follow up went.narrowly passed the post from close range. Our lads continued to work hard and tried to find answers to unlock the solid Newhill defense and it was that man again Chrissy Mullan who managed to squeeze one over the line after some prolonged pressure.
Celtic decided to continue pressing for the win and credit to Newhill and in particular Caolan McAvoy who scored a world class individual goal to break Celtic hearts.
A great game of football for the neutral and lots of positives for our lads in a tough first fixture.
A shout out to Sean Ferris who seems to have seriously hurt his shoulder in a collision with the Newhill keeper and good luck also to Newhill for the rest of the year.
