Ladies and Gentlemen. Tomorrow is the 47th anniversary of my second English Channel Swim. 20 hrs 15mins. Not the speediest but got there.
Tomorrow I will take Meg’s Mermaids up Loch Lomond Balloch to Ardlui! Tge memories will be strong but I will be doing what I love helping swimmers achieve their aims the best I can.

These things happen……..
The similar thing about open water swimming and boats is they both have multiple moving parts. This means any of those parts can fail at a moments notice. You service your boat to death, make sure your muscles are stretched. But in rare occasions they fail. I had this on Loch Ness last week. The boat was going fine. The swimmers had made a decision to stop swimming. We refuelled whilst we were stopped and turned the key ‘click’ nothing. My irreplaceable co-pilot Steve tried to fix it but no luck and the RNLI (thank god they are there) had to tow us into port. After many investigations the starter motor had failed. It was fairly new, from a reputable dealer but it failed. It meant I was unable to fulfill another swim I had booked. This is only the second time in 15 years I have had to cancel someone and it doesn’t feel good but…these things happen. Tell me your tales of equipment failing.
