I taught the first session on the applied karate principle of Meotode and how it fits into practical self protection.

Meotode (literally "husband and wife hands") is an ancient Okinawan karate concept emphasizing the cooperative, simultaneous use of both hands. It teaches that both arms are "alive"—one hand defends while the other strikes—eliminating static "dead hands" on the hip.

Its always a fun weekend with great people.

After almost 20 years, I’ve taken the decision to close Musashi Karate Club.

This hasn’t been an easy choice. The club has been a huge part of my life, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we’ve built together—every student, every lesson, every moment of progress and perseverance.

Initially, our goal was simple: to create a space where our children could train in the art of karate, to become a respected local club and to give back to the local community and help charities along the way.. I believe we’ve surpassed that by quite a margin. I feel incredibly fortunate to have taught thousands of students over the years and to have seen Musashi Karate Club’s reputation grow across the UK and raising almost £80,000 in the process for various charities and support groups.

One thing I am incredibly proud of is the standard of my senior students and their dedication and commitment to learning the art of karate in its original form—as a practical self-defence system. A group of my most senior students will be continuing their journey together, having formed a new group called Bujin-Kai Karate Jutsu. I’m genuinely looking forward to seeing them grow as karate-ka and continue to promote traditional karate in Scotland and beyond, with my full support.

The reason for closing is also straightforward. My time is increasingly committed to work and other projects, and I can no longer give the club the time and energy it truly deserves.

That said, this is not the end of karate for me—far from it. If anything, I’m training more than ever and continuing to develop my own practice. I’m also really looking forward to focusing on teaching through seminars and private lessons, where I can share my experience in a more flexible and focused way, without the constraints of running a full-time club.

To everyone who has trained with me over the years—thank you. Your commitment, spirit, and loyalty have meant a great deal.

This is the end of one chapter, but not the end of the journey.

Our final seminar will be on the 31st of May where we are hosting Iain Abernethy, I hope many of you can join us.
