A very special guest training with us tonight, Always great to have Sensei Jamie Gray training with us and getting a sweat on with the troops, a fantastic session of kata, practical applications and of course the standard for us, smashing pads to round off our training!!!

The ground is the last place you want to be in a real-world violation situation.
In this short video, we break down the reality of ground survival from a practical self-defense perspective.
Unlike sports martial arts, our goal on the floor isn't a submission—it’s survival and escape. If you find yourself on the ground, the priorities are clear:
- Minimize damage and protect yourself.
-Gain a dominant position using continuous striking, holds, and joint locks.
- Create an opening to get back onto your feet.

A slow run through of our first Bo kata, Tokumine no kon

Kata isn't just a dance-it's a combative blueprint.

Pinan Sandan is our third kata, and its core focus is dealing with standing grappling, throws, and takedowns. Once we practiced the applications tonight, we took it to the next level: unscripted, live pressure testing. The instructions were simple: get a grip of each other, start grappling, and survive using the combative principles of Sandan. No script. Just live testing against someone trying to stop you. Great work tonight!

A hot one in the dojo tonight, but that doesn't stop us putting the effort in 🥵🥋
With a slightly smaller class, we had the chance to mix things up. We spent some quality time breaking down Pinan Sandan applications and then putting them to the test in live sparring drills. Followed by the Dan grades practicing matsukaze kata
The smaller group gave us a chance to get the Bo's out and practice our first bo kata tokumine no kon, before finishing the night off the right way—blasting the pads to empty whatever energy we had left.
Brilliant effort from everyone tonight. Sweaty, tough, but rewarding training!

🥋 No better way to spend a Sunday afternoon!

A massive thank you to Iain Abernethy for another fantastic seminar today. We took a deep dive into understanding the combative principles available across all kata, using Bassai-Dai as our blueprint.

It was a brilliant day shared with so many experienced and dedicated Karateka from all over the UK.

A huge, special thank you to Jamie Gray for hosting and organising the last ever Musashi Karate Ayr seminar. End of an era, but what a way to close it out! 🥋💪

🔥 A roasting night in the dojo, but we dig deep and push forward! 🔥
Tonight was all about working on our kicks at close range. We drilled down on generating maximum power with short-range kicks—specifically using the low Mawashi Geri and Nami Gaeshi to devastate an opponent's legs and compromise their base.
When you take away their foundation, the "off switch" opens right up. đź’Ą
