⚽ Cambusdoon 4 - 4 Irvine Meadow ⚽

A really good spectacle for those there to watch this morning saw the teams score 4 goals each in what was very much the stereotypical game of 2 halves.

Before the action got underway, we showed our respect to the newly crowned AYFL League 1 Champions Irvine Meadow 2013s, giving them a guard of honour as they entered the pitch 👏👏.

When the game got underway, it was a first half with lots of pressure and chances for Cambusdoon, and some very alert goalkeeping from the impressive Isaac Donald whenever Irvine Meadow got forward.

After 5 or 6 early half chances, the team took the lead on 10 minutes when Lukian Marii pressed the goalkeeper well and won the ball inside the box. He slipped the ball across the box and Mason Paton got across his defender well and finished neatly for 1-0.

A minute later it was 2-0. Good pressing down the right wing saw the ball going out for a corner. The resulting corner from Hugh Swanson caused problems in the Meadow box, and Lukian reacted quickest to spin and fire home. 2-0.

The rest of the first half followed the same pattern, some good pressure and chances for the team, with any Meadow attacks being mopped up by the defence or alert goalkeeping by Isaac.

It was Meadow who got the next goal, though. A minute before half time, they scored a cracker. Picking up the ball from our goal kick, their player rifled a great shot into the left of the net giving Isaac no chance.

Half Time 2-1

The second half was a completely different story. Meadow started to create a lot of chances and look dangerous. And it was them who scored the next goal. A good ball in to the box was pounced on and fired high into the net. 2-2.

The remaining 20 minutes were end to end, with both teams enjoying a game with no pressure and knocking the ball about well.

It was 3-2 Rovers in 52 minutes when Robbie Jamieson drove forward from central defence and slipped the ball to Zacc Cunningham who finished really well into the bottom corner. 3-2.

In 58 minutes it was level again. A slack clearance was picked up by the Meadow striker. He showed really good feet and finished well past Isaac. 3-3.

By this point in the game, both teams had made numerous changes in true friendly game style. And a long range freekick by Alfie McDonald that was fumbled by a makeshift goalkeeper, with Zacc following up to finish and make it 4-3 on 61 mins.

The scoring was ended 2 minutes later, and it was another equaliser. A good run down the left and good ball across was finished tidily for 4-4.

It was a really good watch for the spectators, and it was good to be able to congratulate Irvine Meadow on their League win.

Referee's Player of The Match was our number 30 Zacc Cunningham, with another quality performance capped off with 2 goals.

Coaches Player of The Match was our Goalkeeper, number 13 Isaac Donald. Isaac was alert all day, sweeping up lots of dangerous looking through balls and making good saves. Isaac is sponsored by MS Goalkeeping Academy

⚽ Cambusdoon Rovers 5 - 1 Stewarton Annick ⚽

And that's a wrap! The team signed off their league season with an excellent victory over a dangerous Stewarton Annick 2013’s team. It was probably the most complete performance the boys have put in this season, with good goalkeeping, solid defending, committed midfield play and good creativity up front. A brilliant way to finish our league campaign for the season.

It was an end to end start to the game, with both teams showing real intent. There were a couple of half chances for Rovers and 2 better ones for Stewarton in the first 6 minutes. Both Stewarton chances coming from direct balls through to their dangerous number 8 who put one over the bar and was beat to the 2nd by an alert Isaac Donald who cleared it off him and away out wide, to then be defended well by Mason Paton.

The next 15 minutes saw the team start to take a grip of the game and start to create some better chances.

On 8 minutes, a through ball from Hugh Swanson nearly found Lukian Marii in the box. The keeper collected it well, but his kick was recovered by the team. Lukian played the ball out right to Robbie Jamieson who had his cross cleared for a corner. Alfie McDonald's corner was headed clear well.

Another attack down the right 2 minutes later came from a quick throw by Mason. Robbie drove forward really well and cut inside towards goal. Just as he was about to shoot from the edge of the box, a defender got a touch away from him. We were starting to really get going.

After 12 minutes Zacc Cunningham received the ball just outside the box after a good move down the left. His shot unfortunately going over the bar.

On 18 minutes it was 1-0. This time Lukian did get himself to the ball. A throw from the right into the box into Hugh saw him use his strength well to put pressure on the defence. Lukian was really alert to pounce on the ball as it broke free and spun well to finish under the keeper for 1-0 Rovers.

Stewarton tried to respond right away, and it was another ball over the top for their number 8 who showed good strength but put his shot over the bar once more.

From the restart, we produced one of our goals of the season, with some excellent play from back to front in a sweeping move. Zacc received the ball in midfield and spread the play brilliantly down the right wing. Robbie's pace took him past the defender and into a great crossing position, from where his cross was pinpoint into the onrushing Lukian for a really tidy finish with his head. Such a nice, slick move to put us up 2-0.

2 minutes later Robbie set off down the right wing again. He cut inside well and left the ball for Hugh to shoot. His shot was blocked but rebounded back to Robbie who could only put it over the bar.

It should have been 3-0 in the 26th minute, though. And it was another great move which deserved a goal. A Stewarton corner was palmed clear by Isaac, Zacc picked the ball up and played it in behind the defence for Lukian to chase. He showed great determination and strength to win the ball and slipped it into the middle of the box for Hugh. He's normally so reliable in those situations, but he put his shot over the bar. Probably the only thing he didn't get right all day.

He nearly made amends within a great assist a minute when he lobbed a great ball through to Lukian who got to it first but could only shoot straight at the keeper.

Despite us being in the ascendency, it was Stewarton who got the 3rd goal. A really quick break saw them 4 against 3. The ball ended up out on their right wing, and a ball slipped in really calmly to the middle and a nice finish into the bottom corner made it 2-1 just before half time.

Half Time 2-1

That goal right before half time gave Stewarton a real lift, and they came out flying at the start of the second half. A wicked corner was cleared but straight to one of their players. He was fouled right on the edge of the box for a really dangerous freekick. Luckily for us, it went high and wide.

On 39 minutes they would have equalised if it wasn't for a superb save by Isaac. Once again it was their very dangerous number 8 who used his strength to win the ball and unleash a thundering shot from 20 yards. Isaac brilliantly tipped it onto the bar, and recovered quickly to claim the ball as it bounced back off the bar.

That was the last chance of note that Stewarton had, as the team took a real grasp of proceedings. Zacc nearly made it 3-1 on 40 minutes when his long range shot hit the base of the post and out for a goal kick.

On 48 minutes we did get our 3rd goal. Another really good cross by Robbie was this time met by Kris Clewlow at the back post. He rose highest to head the ball really well into the roof of the net. 3-1.

The game was now a story of some good possession by Rovers, with some good defending and unlucky finishing keeping the score at 3-1.

On 56 mins it was nearly 4. Hugh's delivery from a corner on the right was excellent, but Lukian's header went over the bar.

The corners were causing real problems, and another Hugh corner nearly resulted in a goal. The ball in bounced around in the box and the eventual shot hit a defender on the line.

Hugh nearly made it 4 himself 2 minutes later when he received the ball from a throw in and hit a good shot across goal only to see it go wide.

A minute later it was 4-1. And it was a hattrick for Lukian. He made a good run on the box and was picked out by a through ball to finish low past the keeper. 4-1.

And it was 5-1 just 2 minutes from time. A good driving run by Kris down the right, he turned back and slipped the ball into the box. It was played to the left to Finlay who's shot was brilliantly saved by the keeper for a corner. The resulting corner from Alfie was right on the money, Lukian finishing with a volley.

A really good performance from the team, and a very good win against a good side. Thanks Stewarton for the game, and we look forward to seeing you again next season.

Referee's Man of The Match was our number 47 Lukian Marii, who was dangerous all day and helped himself to 4 goals! Lukian is sponsored by SELLMYCARAYRSHIRE.
