‘But aren’t yoga teachers supposed to be Zen all the time?’

Being a yoga teacher doesn’t mean being passive or palatable. I’m grounded, not compliant. I set boundaries, I speak up, and I stand firm in what’s right.

Yoga isn’t about being “zen” all the time, it’s about awareness. About being awake enough to see clearly, to question, and to act with integrity.

Reactive abuse is when someone’s response to harmful or unjust behaviour is reframed as the problem, instead of the behaviour that caused it. Naming harm isn’t the issue, avoiding accountability is.

I don’t practice to make myself comfortable in an unjust world. I practice to stay steady, clear, and strong enough to face it, and to do something about it.

I won’t be teaching yoga here for a little while… so this one feels really special 🤍

I’d love for you to join me for one last flow before I go. We’ll move through a dynamic practice and then soften into restorative, taking time to slow down and really land in the moment. A chance to share what’s been such a big part of my life with the people who’ve been part of the journey so far.

I’ve also got the beautiful Hannah from Health Honey bringing her magic with wellness shots & protein puddings for after… because we deserve to feel good inside and out 🫶🏽

Whether you’ve been coming to my classes for years, came once, or have always meant to… you’re welcome 🤍

I’d really love to see you there for this one.

Following on from the news that Buffalo Bills Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during Monday’s night NFL game against the Cincinnati Bengals, do we need to pay more attention to the risks of and injury in sport?

'When athletes — or anyone — are getting hit in the head repeatedly, there can be a buildup of a toxic protein in their brain that can lead to neuronal cell death. When that process starts, it can lead to a neurodegenerative disease that progresses as an athlete continues. So, the problems associated with this toxic protein don’t really show up for decades later.

When we talk about athletes who have memory problems, attention problems, concentration problems later in life and pass away with dementia, we’re finding that the underlying process in their brain is CTE, which is a neurodegenerative disease process. When we find things like NFL players are at a 10 times higher risk of dying from dementia than other athletes, the disease process that is thought to be responsible is CTE.'

Discussions about the dangers of football have surfaced again after Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest during a Monday night game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
