⚽️CATCHING UP WITH THE WOODHORN ⚽️

21/3/26

Woodhorn picked up a hard-fought 2–1 victory despite being without a couple of regulars through injury, as the squad stepped up to deliver a strong team performance.
The visitors made the brighter start and took the lead on 11 minutes, putting the home side under early pressure and again pushed on only to be be stopped increasing their lead by a string of unreal saves by the horn number 1 💪
Woodhorn responded immediately, showing great character, with Carr finding the equaliser just four minutes later to bring the game level at 1–1.
The match remained competitive throughout, with Woodhorn having to ride their luck at times as Sunderland looked to regain the lead. Despite this, the home side grew into the game and began to assert more control as the second half progressed.
The decisive moment came on 59 minutes when Riddell calmly tucked away the winner, giving Woodhorn a crucial advantage. From there, the team showed resilience and determination to see out the game and secure the three points.
A solid all-round performance in difficult circumstances ensured Woodhorn came away with a deserved win. However big shout out to Dean as Sunderland could of been out of sight if it wasn’t for his MOM performance🙌

Next up was Hartlepool away on on 28/3/26 in a cup fixture 🏆

To be honest the lads never created much and lost the game 2-0 to their sloppy errors and slow build up play! The least said about this the better!

Yesterday the lads travelled to DUBMIRE FC

Dubmire Club O40s Veterans First 2-0 Woodhorn Lane
Woodhorn Lane suffered a disappointing 2–0 defeat to Dubmire Club O40s Veterans First in what was a disjointed performance, despite a promising start.
The Horn began the game on the front foot and looked the brighter of the two sides in the opening stages. However, the match turned on 20 minutes in unusual circumstances when the home goalkeeper handled the ball outside his area, resulting in a red card.
Dubmire were reduced to 10 men and were forced to bring on an outfield player as a makeshift goalkeeper.
With the numerical advantage, Woodhorn dominated possession for large periods but struggled to turn control into meaningful chances. Again to slow to predictable but Despite their territorial dominance, clear-cut opportunities were very limited from overplaying and composure in key moments let them down.
As the game progressed, Woodhorn pushed further forward in search of a breakthrough, leaving themselves exposed at the back. Dubmire capitalised on this on an error by our CB to go 1-0 up! Then on the counter attack after turnovers in possession to secure the victory at 2-0 🤦‍♂️
It was a frustrating afternoon for Woodhorn, who will feel they should have made their advantage count but were ultimately punished for a lack of cutting edge and defensive discipline.

Lads need a kick up the arse for HARTLEPOOL at home this Saturday.

Last Saturday result
Penshaw 1 – 1 Woodhorn
The return fixture saw Woodhorn start brightly, controlling the early stages of the game with confidence, but we couldn’t quite make the most of our possession as Penshaw worked their way back into the contest.
0–0 at half-time saw a slight change of formation, which worked well as we closed the home side down with good pressure. The Horn forced a turnover and Young spotted the keeper off his line, clipping a superb effort from distance over his head to give Woodhorn the lead.
Three injuries then took their toll, with skipper Gall, then Sanderson and Davison all forced to make way. Penshaw managed to float a ball into the box and grabbed an equaliser with 10 minutes to go.
However, the lads showed great character in the closing stages, defending well to stop the rot and earn a valuable away point.
Up the Horndogs.

CATCH UP! 1/3/26

Sunderland Grindon 2–0 Woodhorn
Woodhorn travelled to Sunderland to face Grindon in what turned out to be a tight and competitive encounter. The Horn battled well throughout but were ultimately undone by two moments that went the home side’s way.
Grindon took the lead following what felt like a harsh free kick awarded on the edge of the box. The resulting delivery was met with a glancing header that found the net to give the hosts the advantage.
Woodhorn showed plenty of determination and work rate, staying in the contest and trying to find a way back into the game. However, Grindon managed to secure the points with a second goal later in the match to make it 2–0.
Despite the result, it was a dogged performance from The Horn, who continued to battle until the final whistle but couldn’t quite find the breakthrough they needed.

SATURDAY 7/3/26

Woodhorn 0 – 3 Penshaw
The Horn gave 100% effort on a cracking morning for football but couldn’t quite find the quality needed to hurt Penshaw, wasting good opportunities in both halves.
Penshaw held their shape better throughout and were clinical when their chances came, taking control of the game and securing the win.
We take it on the chin and move on, with the chance to put things right when we face Penshaw again in the reverse fixture next week.

Darlington 2 Woodhorn 2

The Horn travelled to Darlington determined to stop the recent run of defeats. In a tricky away fixture, Woodhorn settled well, but a difficult playing surface made any neat, tidy football almost impossible.
Darlington capitalised on a wasted Horn corner, breaking quickly after a failed clearance to take the lead. Stand-in keeper Young kept the visitors firmly in the contest with a string of cat-like saves, showing bravery and sharp reactions throughout.
Woodhorn responded in style when White spotted his opportunity and lobbed the ball home from distance to level the score.
The second half saw Woodhorn dominate large spells but fail to make that pressure count. Darlington struck again against the run of play to regain the lead. However, with five minutes left on the clock, Soulsby rolled back the years, powering home a bullet header reminiscent of his heyday to secure a thoroughly deserved point.
