⚽️CATCHING UP WITH THE WOODHORN ⚽️
21/3/26
Woodhorn picked up a hard-fought 2–1 victory despite being without a couple of regulars through injury, as the squad stepped up to deliver a strong team performance.
The visitors made the brighter start and took the lead on 11 minutes, putting the home side under early pressure and again pushed on only to be be stopped increasing their lead by a string of unreal saves by the horn number 1 💪
Woodhorn responded immediately, showing great character, with Carr finding the equaliser just four minutes later to bring the game level at 1–1.
The match remained competitive throughout, with Woodhorn having to ride their luck at times as Sunderland looked to regain the lead. Despite this, the home side grew into the game and began to assert more control as the second half progressed.
The decisive moment came on 59 minutes when Riddell calmly tucked away the winner, giving Woodhorn a crucial advantage. From there, the team showed resilience and determination to see out the game and secure the three points.
A solid all-round performance in difficult circumstances ensured Woodhorn came away with a deserved win. However big shout out to Dean as Sunderland could of been out of sight if it wasn’t for his MOM performance🙌
Next up was Hartlepool away on on 28/3/26 in a cup fixture 🏆
To be honest the lads never created much and lost the game 2-0 to their sloppy errors and slow build up play! The least said about this the better!
Yesterday the lads travelled to DUBMIRE FC
Dubmire Club O40s Veterans First 2-0 Woodhorn Lane
Woodhorn Lane suffered a disappointing 2–0 defeat to Dubmire Club O40s Veterans First in what was a disjointed performance, despite a promising start.
The Horn began the game on the front foot and looked the brighter of the two sides in the opening stages. However, the match turned on 20 minutes in unusual circumstances when the home goalkeeper handled the ball outside his area, resulting in a red card.
Dubmire were reduced to 10 men and were forced to bring on an outfield player as a makeshift goalkeeper.
With the numerical advantage, Woodhorn dominated possession for large periods but struggled to turn control into meaningful chances. Again to slow to predictable but Despite their territorial dominance, clear-cut opportunities were very limited from overplaying and composure in key moments let them down.
As the game progressed, Woodhorn pushed further forward in search of a breakthrough, leaving themselves exposed at the back. Dubmire capitalised on this on an error by our CB to go 1-0 up! Then on the counter attack after turnovers in possession to secure the victory at 2-0 🤦♂️
It was a frustrating afternoon for Woodhorn, who will feel they should have made their advantage count but were ultimately punished for a lack of cutting edge and defensive discipline.
Lads need a kick up the arse for HARTLEPOOL at home this Saturday.
