Smisby Ki Aikido Club The practice of Ki Aikido cultivates a calm disposition, improving physical and mental wellbeing for daily life. Ki Tests to check coordination and calmness.

The Smisby Ki Aikido club Sunday mornings from 10.00 a.m. - 12.00 noon at the Smisby village hall. The Smisby Ki Aikido club is run by Sensei Maurice Freeman 4th Dan and is affiliated to the national Shin Shin Aikido Association headed by Sensei Peter Hughes 8th Dan. Ki Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that blends traditional Aikido with a strong emphasis on mind-body coordination, calmness

under pressure, and the development of inner energy, known as Ki. Ki Aikido was founded by Koichi Tohei in the 1970s after he broke away from the Aikikai organisation, where he had been the chief instructor under Aikido founder Morihei Ueshiba. Ki Aikido focuses not only on self-defense techniques, but also on the cultivation and application of "Ki", a concept often translated from Japanese as "life energy" or "unifying energy.”

Training includes:
Ki Development Exercises to unify the mind and body. Ki Aikido Techniques practiced in a cooperative, non-competitive way. Ki Breathing and Ki Meditation for mental clarity and physical wellbeing. Ki Aikido emphasises non-aggression, relaxation, and harmony with the goal to remain calm and centred under stress, redirecting conflict without force. Overall, Ki Aikido is both a physical and philosophical discipline, offering tools for personal growth, increased confidence, stress reduction, mental and physical wellbeing in daily life. If you think that studying this art is of interest to you then please feel free to come along. The first introductory lesson is free, please wear loose clothing with no zips that is suitable for exercise and arrive 15 minutes before the start of class.
