Since coming into the fitness industry, my driving motivation has been for my reputation to proceed me.

I wanted to build a brand that authentically reflects my principals, and have a space of my own in which to show up as the best coach I can be.

It’s been 10 years in the making but it’s finally becoming a reality.

It’s integral to me that I create a safe, affirmative space for people in marginalised communities. And I strive to change the way we access health and fitness.

This is stage one of that process and I am beyond excited to share it with you all.

This will be much more than a space or a brand, it will be a community, a culture, a movement.

You’re gonna wanna be a part of it.

Welcome to The Alternative.

👋 Name: Rae
✨ Pronouns: She/Her
🌈 Identity: LGBTQ+
🙏🏼 Low Cost Services for LGBTQ+ folks: Yes

🌟 Experience: Rae’s been working in the fitness industry for almost 10 years and tailors her coaching to help women and the LGBTQ+ community on their fitness journey…

“Training is integral to my gender identity and helped me rebuild my relationship with my own body post-pregnancy.

Low confidence or not conforming to gender norms is often a barrier to people’s access to training and I want to change that.

I want to create a sense of community by providing an inclusive, judgment-free space for you to train in.”

🌟 What You Can Expect: “This is where most coaches would show you before and after pics of their clients…

but you won’t see any transformation pics here.
You will see the whole client journey – challenges and issues they’ve faced and how they have overcome them.

I coach people through pregnancy, injury, post-operations, redefining their relationship with food and beyond.

I don’t care about quick transformations, I care about helping you transform your life and your mindset in the long-term.”

Fat Loss Myths. Busted.

So many women tell me they’re sticking to 1200 calories and losing weight but feel too restricted and like it’s sheer punishment.

This isn’t sustainable long term.

The best approach and most likely to get results that you can actually maintain, is to be in a healthy, realistic deficit.

Fuel your body appropriately for your level of activity.

If you’re struggling with fat loss, I can help.

Get in touch.

You’ve had a baby and want to get back into exercising, but where do you start?

Start by accepting that it will be a long journey.

When you consider what your body has actually gone through, it’s no surprise really, that it will take a long time to recover.

You want your return to fitness to be safe but also enjoyable. So laying the right foundations in the early post natal stages is crucial.

Remember, that this timeline is just a guide and all bodies are different so don’t compare yourself to others and what rate they progress at.
Your journey is individual to you.

If you’d like support with returning to fitness after giving birth, message me ‘post natal’

For most people, time is priceless and there’s never enough of it.

So cut a few corners and make life easier for yourself.

Free up some time by hacking nutrition where possible.

There’s still work to be done, of course! However, these 3 tips won’t affect your progress but will spare you some time to use elsewhere.

If you’d like more support with this, DM me ‘nutrition’ and I’ll send a free recipe guide.

WEIGHT TRAINING AS GENDER AFFIRMATION

I’ve struggled with my gender identity my whole life, if I’m honest.

For a long time, I didn’t feel at home in my body so I neglected it.

I didn’t fuel it properly, didn’t do any strength training and ran myself into the ground on a sort of self punishment trip.

I dreaded passing a full length mirror or looking at my body.

Add in how becoming a parent made my gender identity issues worse, not to mention changed my body in a way that did not make me love what I saw in the mirror.

So I started training chest, learned how to build my shoulders and arms to make my hips appear smaller, and used weight training to my advantage.

Strength training has allowed me to feel at home in my body and getting stronger makes me feel happier in myself and there’s power in that.

If you can relate to any of these issues I’d love to help you.

My DMs are always open and I’m happy to chat or answer questions any time.

Back pain? I hear you.

Long story short…

It’s probably your core 🤷🏻‍♂️

But! Strengthening your core isn’t the only thing you can do to help yourself.
Core stabilisation is wildly underrated 👀

DM me if you’re wondering what it even is or how to implement it into your training.

Also….

Keep reading for some science (if you’re into all that) 🤓

The below is from research into the effects of core stabilisation and strengthening on proprioception, balance, muscle thickness and pain related outcomes in patients with subacute non-specific lower back pain.

In a randomised controlled trial, participants were split into two groups:

One on a core stabilisation exercise (CSE) regime, the other on a core strengthening exercise (STE) regime.
30 mins, 3 times per week for 4 weeks.

The CSE group demonstrated significantly more improvement than the STE group after 4 weeks of intervention.

Improvements were found in: proprioception, balance and percentage change of muscle thickness of the Transversus Abdominis and lumbar multifidus.

It concluded that, despite both core stabilisation and strengthening exercises reducing subacute non-specific lower back pain, core stabilisation exercise is superior to strengthening exercise. It is effective in improving proprioception, balance, and percentage change of muscle thickness of Transversus Abdominis and lumbar multifidus and reducing functional disability and fear of movement in patients with subacute NSLBP.

Considerations for post pregnancy weight loss from a pre & post natal specialist.

I’ve worked with many pregnant women, from before pregnancy right through to after giving birth and beyond.

And as someone who’s been there myself, I know that between lack of sleep, lack of time, lack of energy, a baby that needs A LOT of attention - it absolutely is a struggle to implement the changes needed to lose weight as a new mum.

And sometimes it might seem impossible… but it honestly isn’t.

I hope these tips are useful, feel free to DM me any questions

That’s not the flex you think it is 🤡

Don’t get me wrong, is it possible to get results in 8 weeks? Yes.

However, are they sustainable, long term? No.

Rapid transformations serve their purpose, for example, prep for a show but if your general goal is weight loss - my first question would be…

Do you want a quick fix or do you want to make habitual changes that you can implement into your lifestyle?

Long term results are not possible in 8 weeks.

Don’t be fooled, work with a coach who knows what they’re talking about and actually cares about you.

Message me if you want long term results in a healthy and realistic time frame.

WHAT DOES FITNESS MEAN TO YOU?

It might mean losing weight, being stronger, prolonging your life or being able to keep up with your kids.

For me, it means making sustainable changes so that I can lead a healthy lifestyle and be a role model to my son.

Whatever it means to you, enjoy the process and make it realistic - you’re way more likely to stick to it.

Staying focussed on achieving your goals isn’t always easy and you’ll have days where you just can’t be arsed.

If you’re making sacrifices instead of small compromises you’ll start to resent the process.

If you’d like some help with this - drop me a message.
