Today, during Carers Week, I want to celebrate the incredible people who so often go unrecognised for the amazing care, support, and love they give every day.
I would like to say a huge, above and beyond thank you to my husband, who became my carer when I was diagnosed with breast cancer.
In fact, he physically went to the doctor’s surgery and made my very first appointment, the first step of my breast cancer journey, because at the time I was still in denial.
While trying to run a business and keep our home together, he took me to every appointment, sat patiently by my bedside reading to me, held my hand when I needed comfort, organised the laundry, and managed all the mundane chores that keep a household ticking over. Taking care of our animals.
He did everything he could to make me comfortable. When I could barely walk, he took me on little drives to nearby villages for a change of scenery. He called in our children and grandson when I was at my lowest to lift my spirits and remind me what I was fighting for.
The list goes on.
Today, there are countless homes across the country and around the world where carers are quietly giving their time, energy, patience, and love to those who need them most.
To every carer, thank you. Your kindness, dedication, and selflessness make a difference every single day, often in ways that nobody else sees.
And to my husband, thank you will never be enough, but I hope you know just how much your love, strength, and unwavering support meant to me, and still do. I would not have got through that journey without you.
Happy Carers Week to all the amazing carers out there. You are seen, appreciated, and deeply valued.
