We are open….. 🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳

Delighted to report that Aberfeldy Sports Club has finally opened its doors.

In 2020 Aberfeldy Golf Club and Aberfeldy RFC had the idea of providing a multi sports changing facility, bar and restaurant on the site of the old Golf Club clubhouse.

The Sports Club, and its trustees have worked tirelessly to raise funds to make this project a reality. We now have a fabulous new facility for Aberfeldy.

are taking on the food and drink side of the facility. Having had a test run tonight for Trustees and the committee members of both Clubs, with both George and Ian at the helm, we are in very capable hands.

Tomorrow we open to the public from 5pm.
Come down and see for yourself. We would love to welcome you.

Exciting news about The Aberfeldy Sports Club.📢📢📢📢

We will be opening “Riverside”; the Bar, Café and Restaurant which will be managed by Ian Gardiner and his team from the Three Lemons.

It should be open to everyone early in December with menus and opening hours available soon. Riverside will have a different menu from the Three Lemons to go with the Sports Club setting.

Construction work will be finished by early November and then the last of the interior work, kitchen and bar equipment will be installed by the end of the month.

The Trustees would like to offer our best wishes to the Riverside team and look forward to opening the doors.

The Trustees of The Aberfeldy Sports Club (TASC) are pleased to celebrate a major milestone - that SSE Renewables has now invested £100 million in communities across the UK and Ireland.

We are especially proud to be part of this journey because our project -construction of The Aberfeldy Sports Club - was made possible by the generous support of The Griffin and Calliachar Community Fund.

In 2021, when this project was being planned, the Trustees knew that the considerable funding requirement would have to be obtained from several sources and that it was vital to gain early support from SSE Renewables; not only for financial reasons, but because their presence as a cornerstone funder would give comfort to other potential funders.

In October 2022 the Griffin and Calliachar Community Fund awarded us a generous grant – of £250,000- their largest ever single grant – which kick-started our project. In September 2024 we received a further £100,000 to help us deal with increased costs and other difficulties.

We are now approaching completion of construction and hope our sports clubhouse and community hub will be open to all within this year.

Once completed, the clubhouse will provide modern changing rooms and showers plus a bar /restaurant and space for meetings. These facilities will be available to everyone, including local sports clubs, special interest clubs, trail walkers, cyclists, visiting golfers, and those who regularly walk the scenic riverside perimeter of the parkland golf course – now preserved for the future by a golf club which will be reinvigorated by the superb new clubhouse.

TASC Chairman Peter Howell says” From everyday interaction, I know that the community keenly anticipates the opening of the clubhouse which I am confident will be a treasured amenity for generations. On behalf of the Trustees of The Aberfeldy Sports Club, I extend our heartfelt thanks for the generous support of the Griffin and Calliachar Community Fund.”

COMPETITION TIME..................🎈🎉

Those walking by Wades Bridge and the Black Watch Monument recently will have noticed construction of the new Aberfeldy Sports Club moving at great pace in recent weeks.

Getting exciting now and from the looks of it Aberfeldy will have a fantastic new facility with sports chaning rooms and a fantastic bar and restaurant looking over the River Tay.

Although the building will belong to the Aberfeldy Sports Club Trust we are inviting suggestions for naming the bar/restaurant facility.

Positioned where "The Old Tin Hut" used to proudly stand, originally built in 1895 as a home to members of Aberfeldy Golf Club.

Is the "Old Tin Hut" a potential name????

This is where we need your help....... With the new build location next to Wades Bridge, the River Tay and Black Watch Monument (with Farquar Shaw keeping watch), we would like your suggestions in the comments below. We will pick the ones we like the best and perhaps put it to a community vote.

What's the prize you ask? Well having the privelage of naming the new facility is surely reward enough......😂😂

Get creative Aberfeldy.........

The Aberfeldy Sports Club:

Pleased to finally share an update of great news!

The Trustees of the Aberfeldy Sports Club (TASC) are pleased to announce that they have signed a contract for construction of a new building on the cleared site formerly occupied by the Aberfeldy Golf Club pavilion.

The successful tenderer was Alpha Projects (Scotland) Limited, who plan to commence work in December and complete construction by October 2025.

The projected total cost, including professional fees, preliminaries etc. was funded by SSE Renewables, The Gannochy Trust, sportscotland, Scottish Rugby, Basil Death Trust, Aberfeldy RFC, Aberfeldy Golf Club (who also donated the site) and, via Perth & Kinross Council, the Community Led Local Development (CLLD) fund and United Kingdom Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). A further anonymous donation was made by a company working locally.

TASC chairman Peter Howell said: “The Trustees started work on this project in 2021 and we are delighted to have reached this stage. It would be fair to say that the journey has not been easy. Towards completion of the initial planning process, our progress was hugely impacted by retrospective application of new 200 -year flood risk regulations which necessitated significant redesign of the building. As a result, we were obliged to appeal to our funders for additional time and money to complete the project. All funders have shown great patience and for this we offer our heartfelt thanks. We are particularly grateful to the funders who stepped up to increase funding awards: SSE Renewables via their Griffin & Calliachar Fund, The Gannochy Trust, and the CLLD and UKSPF funds via Perth & Kinross Council.

We should thank too, Jon Frullani Architect Ltd for their patience in handling multiple revisions of the building plans and their public-spirited approach to fees.

I should also mention the support we have received from local politicians: in particular, Councillors John Duff and Michel Williamson, John Swinney MSP, and Dave Doogan MP. I hope that we can now push forward to complete our project without bothering them again.”

The new clubhouse will be a single storey building with men’s and women’s changing rooms, showers, toilets and meeting rooms, a bar/restaurant and areas for leisure and lifestyle events. The facilities will be available to all local amateur sports clubs and to the public.

The Trustees look forward to providing a modern community clubhouse which will benefit all Aberfeldy folk and visitors to the area

A quick update to everyone on current progress with the Aberfeldy Sports Club.

A message from our Chairman......

"We have new prices from builders to construct the Sports Club. These are quite a bit higher than we expected and so we are looking at ways to trim the costs by changing some details of the building. This also means that there will be a delay in starting the build.

A lot of the price increase has come from the need to raise the building up above the river level when it floods. There has been a change in planning legislation that means that the effects of climate change have to be included when calculating the highest future flood water level.

We are working through all of this with the contractors as well as our funders. This is going to take a couple of months and we will update you as soon as we can."

We will keep you updated on progress.

This promotional video for the new Aberfeldy Sports Club was made almost 18 months ago. Since then an incredible about of time and effort has been given by our Trustees to allow us to reach our funding target. With many hurdles to jump over in the last 18 months we are now getting closer to seeing some real progress..............

Quite nice to have a look back to how it all started.....

The end of an era...............

The first steps to building our new Aberfeldy Sports Club has been the big clear out out. Not an easy task as I am sure you can imagine. Luckily the community helped and many kitchen and furniture items were able to find new homes during February.

The rest has been a skip operation and big thanks to the grafters you can see in the pictures: Moncrieff, Thom and Ronnie Battison of Aberfeldy Golf Club all did a great job during the big clear out.

If you look closely at one of the current Clubhouse pictures. Johnson used his creative Countdown skills to say a Golf Club farewell , using the letters from A B E R F E L D Y G O L F C L U B (with a bit of cheating with the U. 😂😂

Formed in 1895, the Clubhouse has always had a prominent position in the town . It has changed over the years from the original "Old Tin Hut" but it will truly be the end of an era with it being set to be demolished later this month.

An exciting new era beckons though. We will keep you posted on developments.

Local sports teams scores over the weekend:

🏈Aberfeldy RFC lost 18-5 to a strong Glenrothes Rugby Club in the Quarter Finals of the Caledonia Bowl.

⚽Breadalbane FC beat Alyth 5-2 in the Perthshire First Division to keep them on track in their quest for the League title this season.
