🏆 Back-to-Back Champions! 🏆
West End FC headed to the Mill United Festival today looking to retain the title we won last year, and the boys certainly didn’t disappoint.
The lads enjoyed their football throughout the day, producing some excellent passages of play while also having a few moments where we were caught sleeping. With this being the final games of a long and successful season, it was great to see everyone get plenty of minutes on the pitch.
Today followed a familiar pattern for this group. The boys battled through the group stages, finishing top of the table before heading into the semi-finals, where they really started to build momentum. That confidence carried into the final, where we played some excellent football, created a number of chances and looked the more likely side to break the deadlock.
We thought we’d done just that when we found the net from a corner, only for the goal to be ruled out for a foul in the box. As the clock ticked down, it looked like the festival would be decided by penalties.
Then came the moment of magic.
In the dying moments of the match, the ball dropped kindly to Alfie, who kept his composure and calmly slotted his finish into the corner to secure another trophy for the West End boys! 🏆⚽
A huge thank you to everyone involved in organising such a fantastic event and to all the teams who attended. It’s a long day for players, coaches and families alike, and it was brilliant to see so much quality football, determination and sportsmanship on display despite some very tired legs.
