Back to league action today for Grampian U14 City.

With a depleted squad and only 1 Sub today was always going to be a struggle against a really good, organised and battling Buchan squad.

The girls have shown real progress recently, and today we asked the squad to play containing football and limit the amount of possession Buchan had.

First 12 mins was really good stuff from both teams with back and forth football.

Some good build play from Buchan found a good switch of play into a area where a legitimate offside question was asked for but not given and Buchan quite rightly took full advantage and unfortunately for Grampian never managed to recover quickly enough and a classy finish from Buchan.

Never to put the heads down the girls kept the same type of football going and hoping the chance would come.

Credit to Buchan the chance of anything building was quickly snuffed out and the game became a midfield battle.

21 mins found another attack from Buchan where the ball dropped into the 6 yard area and nobody from Grampian took charge of the situation and Buchan had their second.

The next 14 mins showed what Grampian can do with some really good stuff in build up play and pressing high up the pitch some great defensive interceptions and a couple of good saves from the Buchan keeper kept it to 2-0 at the break.

Second half

Asked the girls to show more of the same but a little more composure and get the ball moving quicker.

Slightly more of a scrappier game in the second half with some tired legs starting to show but credit to our midfield and defensive 4 they just never gave up.

55 mins showed a slight defensive mistake where Buchan capitalised and slotted the 3rd away.

All in all a good shift from the whole team especially with only the 1 sub.

PLOTM again could not be drawn down to 1 player

Been a busy weekend for Grampian Girls City U14s
Saturday saw us in a friendly against a very good and well organised Huntly team.
As always at Northfield the weather is never sensible but Saturday saw it dry little wind but noticeably cooler than of late. Game started well with both teams getting forward and creating space just lacking the final bit to create an opportunity.
The deadlock was broken on 20 min when Brynn stepped up to take a corner and done her usual dangerous in sw***er which found the back of the net.
Although that was the only goal of the game the remainder of the game showed some good football from both teams.
We wish Huntly all the best for the remainder of the season and look forward to another match soon.

Sunday was a totally different and new venture where we dipped our toes into Futsal against the 2013 Aberdeen Academy
Brilliant evening where it’s just non stop football
All the girls had a blast and something we are looking seriously into to make it a weekly thing

What a weekend we all had as a team. Friday early trip down to M&Ds for some team bonding. Overnight stay with the fun continuing into the late evening.
Early start on Saturday with a short car journey to Cumbernauld Colts Festival.

First up Cumbernauld Colts Y.
Brilliant competitive game with both sides showcasing some brilliant football. Some tactical changes early into the game saw a shift in the game and Grampian managed to get their nose in front and sticking to the game plan saw the game out to finish with a win 2-1.

Second game Drumsagard Girls

Without a proper warm up ( Coach Murf’s fault ) because of a misreading of kick off time🤦‍♂️ the girls went on with the same game plan and blasted out the blocks from the word go. Passing was brilliant and the way the game was controlled was exactly what was asked. Huge credit to the Drumsagard Girls who did not give up until the last second of the game and I’m sure they will have a very successful future if they keep that commitment up. Grampian win 5-0

Third game Giffnock SC

Battle for top spot. Both teams having 2 wins and with the same goal difference it was all to play for. If there was ever an advert for U14s girls football this was it. Nail biting for the coaches and parents. End to end stuff for the neutrals.
Giffnock very strong in attacking the right wing.
Grampian solid in defence, both midfields battling it out and after 40 mins clean sheets for both teams.
Dreaded penalty shootout to see who goes into semi finals as top seed or second.
It took 7 penalties to decide the fate with Grampian losing out.

Fourth game semi final Musselburgh Girls.

From watching the games during the day it was obvious Musselburgh were a descent squad. The girls took to the field a bit battle sore. It did show with the slow start and some defensive blunders allowing our opposition to dictate the game. Half time was needed to stir the pot. We did get a response but with two injuries to key players and the pace of the day we inevitably lost out to a good deserving winner.

Our 3rd place play off opposition did not stick around to play the final game so Grampian awarded a quite rightly deserved 3rd place overall.

Giffnock Vs Musselburgh Girls which was a great final with that game also having to be decided by Penalties with Musselburgh taking the win.

All in all a brilliant display of competition football by Grampian City U14s. the last few month have seen them grow in confidence on and off the field and we are all very proud of them.

Been a little quiet on social media lately with match results and reports so apologies for that.

Wednesday 10th saw us play a home league game against Aberdeen City where the pitch and weather conditions were less than ideal.

Driving rain and a chill set the tone for the 7pm kick off.

From the word go An Aberdeen player found space and Grampian failed to switch on resulting in a goal with less than a min on the clock.

A reset was asked for and Grampian grew into the match playing some good possession football when the pitch allowed.

The equaliser came in the 15 min with Nicole dispatching the ball away and well deserved.

Grampian continued to knock on the door with players convinced that the ball crossed the line but the Aberdeen keeper managing to scramble back.

A brilliant hit from long range by Teagan hit the underside of the cross bar which did look in but the ref judged it to not of crossed the line also.

Grampian scored their second with Eva getting some space and dispatching low into the corner leaving the keeper with no chance.

With 5 mins to go before half time we wanted to settle down and see it to half time but again a small lapse in concentration allowed Aberdeen to equalise setting up nail biting second half.

Lots of end to end stuff with chances from both teams but thankfully Grampian found Summer in space who slotted the ball away in extra time to seal a well deserved 3-2 win.

Wednesday 17th saw us have another league game this time we welcomed Westend 14s.

This has always been a good tie over the years and with the weather better we hoped for a good display.

Straight from the kick off it was end to end stuff and both teams enjoying some good passing and physical battles in midfield and defence.

5 mins into the game Westend keeper kicked the ball downfield where an abnormally high bounce surprised Jessica who was doing the correct thing but unfortunately the ball spilled to the Westend striker who made no mistake with the open goal.

The game then became a battle of midfield and some really good defending from both teams saw half time score remain at 0-1.

Grampian coaches asked for more positive direct running and passing and the girls responded with some really pleasing football.

Grampian were rewarded their goal on the 58th min where Eilidh found the ball sit up well and from 25 yards hit the ball into the back of the net.

Time was running out and a tactical change late on saw Nicole move upfront and when Jessica managed to kick a lovely ball down to Nicole she latched onto it quickly beat the defender and shot passed the keeper in the 73rd min securing the 2-1 win.
