New Year, New Month, New Week

I’ve been doing this long enough to realize every January starts the same...

Good intentions.�Fresh plans.�A little spark of “this time is different.”

And then… life shows up.
Work gets busy 😬�Energy dips 🪫 �Motivation fades 🫩

And to top if off Mother Nature brings us 5 days ❄️ we’ve not seen since 2010 😮
Schools are closed
Gym opening & closing times have been reduced 🤷🏻‍♂️

However these are just excuses, if you really want to take action this year what you waiting for 🙄🙃🤣

Seriously one set back day isn’t going to delay your progress.

Miss a day?
You don’t “start over.”
You just pick back up.
That’s how consistency is actually built.

The day has come that I got to take Euan for his first 🏋🏻‍♀️ session 🙌.

Imagine children growing up viewing strength training as normal and not intimidating places they struggle with as adults?

The Research shows that children emulate their parents, which is why as a Dad I feel it’s my duty too

☑️ Model a healthy lifestyle
☑️ Expose my kids to the gym early.

Skills imprinted in childhood persist into adulthood.

☑️ Let your child see you exercise.
☑️ Let them watch you 😰 and struggle.
☑️ Let them witness true strength.
☑️ Lead by example.

Expose children to gym environments and let them see you workout 👍🏻

P.S Euan has been going to a gym class consistently for over 6 months however it’s time to work on his strength training keep an 👁️ on further updates 👍🏻

Don’t make any 😂

There overrated anyway

Only 35% of people stick to them 🤪🤷🏻‍♂️

Its a New Year, NEW WEEK, NEW MONTH so its
the best chance you will get for the entire year if you want to start and stick to a new lifestyle plan.

Its the ideal time of year because everything is set up in your favour.

Your starting motivation is there your friends are probably doing something similar and there are fewer social events and distractions.

And yet, so many people find it so hard.

WHY, then, over the next few weeks, will most people’s New Year resolutions fail?

The reason they fail is simple 🤷🏻‍♂️ they don’t have a GOAL & PLAN and soo too ironically, are the adjustments they need to make to achieve success.

The reason is that they have identified the (not specific enough) goal of getting fit but they’ve not equipped themselves with the tools they need to get the job done.

The FIX? Following these simple steps:

1️⃣ Identify your GOAL
‘Getting fit’ isn’t a useful goal. Its too vague. A better one is to aim for a specific, measurable, time framed goal. Which will also increase your odds of success.

2️⃣ Ask yourself WHY
Your WHY can be many different things. Short-term we define that by maybe losing weight to fit into clothes you use to wear or it could be hitting a PB on a 5k or Deadlift your body weight, You need to know WHY you want to achieve the GOAL?

These micro WHY help challenge, and drive you to continue to exercise on a regular basis 💪

3️⃣ Get a PLAN
You will have heard me say this before because it is vital. No PLAN, no RESULTS. It’s as black and white as that.

If you do these three things then you will put a 🚀 under your chances of a new year fitness success.

And if you really want to guarantee you make progress, here is a bonus tip that I would recommend.

✅ Plan your sessions in advance for the week ahead and stick to them 👍🏻

You can only grow at the end of your comfort zone”

One issue I see a lot, especially when I start working with clients is they are in a BIG comfort zone.

Yesterday my little girl did something that pushed her out of her comfort zone. Her 1st Recreational Gymnastics Competition.

She was to do it last year but didn’t feel quite ready. After entering this year she got really excited about the prospect of doing it.

However in the lead up to the competition she was a little anxious in doing it. Once she got there and started the warm up & was informed what she had to do for the competition she began to relax & enjoy the experience.

Did she regret it? HELL NO it was by far the best adrenaline feeling she had in a long time zipping over the bars, tumbling on the mats, balancing along the beam & finishing the floor work with forward, backward rolls & cartwheel.

You see In her setting just that little bit outside of her comfort zone allowed her to grow as a person.

Oh & did I forget to mention she smashed it out of the park with a distinction & 🥇 to move into the next phase of her development. Beyond 🥹

I work with men & women who come to me stuck with a problem and it’s my accountability towards them that gets them to step slightly out of the comfort zone in order for them to grow & develop.

So when it comes to getting the best fat loss results the best thing you can do is grow as a person and that requires stepping out of your comfort zone?

Your probably not going to like this. However it’s something that needs to be said… 👇

Even if your busting out rep after rep and have made great dietary changes, you won’t make any progress if your doing this.

PROGRAM HOPPING

Let me ask you a tough question… if your jumping from one program to another, how do you know if.

1️⃣ Your getting 💪?

2️⃣ You’re getting more flexible/mobile?

3️⃣ You’re becoming more fit?

These 3 things may not sound like a big deal, but if you’re improving just ONE of these, you could easily 🔥 fat faster and easier.

Improve all 3?

You’ll really release that fat burning furnace 😂

Yet most people are just about how much you 😰 and are looking for the next Tick-Tock trend or Instagram influencer workout to try 🤷🏻‍♂️ 🙄

Listen - I can do a few burpees and star jumps in the house with the heating up above 20o and my t-shirt is wet.

However that doesn’t mean I had an 🤩 workout.

It means I increased my ❤️ rate and core temperature of my body and the 🏠 was 🥵 😂

So 🛑 with the program hopping addiction you have.

No more of this …

Instead pick a program and stick to it for 4-6 weeks.

It’s how I program my workouts and It’s how my most successful clients get results 👍🏻

There’s power in following a specific plan and next week aim to get better.

Increase your resistance by 1-2 exercises. Try and do a few more SETS. Try to do a few more Reps… SOMETHING.

When you get better, you get leaner… that’s why.

By sticking to a program for 4-6 weeks and taking notes you will see yourself getting more fit getting 💪 and when you do that it’s way easier to keep your weight off.

Monika started training with me in February 2023 with the goal to achieve 10kg weight loss by summer, become healthier and fitter after putting on some weight in lockdown and after an injury when she tried wresting for the first time.

Being a Mum of 2 working from 🏠 in Customer relations she found it difficult to get into a routine and keep consistent with her training. Monika was a keen 🏃🏻‍♀️ but never used the gym or had PT.

After training with me for over 7 months Monika not only achieved her weight loss goal but also increased her strength and lean muscle.

We’re 12 days into 2024 😝

But technically we’re only 5 days in since the first week was a write-off for most people.

So if you’re starting to work towards any kind of health and fitness goals here’s what you need to focus on…

Start EASY with some basic changes and tweaks to what you’re currently doing.

Like increasing your protein intake.

Or your steps by 2,000 each day.

Nothing mental or drastic is required here.

Get some wins like ✔️ off all the basics:

✅ Steps
✅ Workouts
✅ Calories
✅ Protein

Go from there with your new found momentum so you can start seeing some big changes.

Flying out the blocks only works for a small amount of people.

You’ll probably be best served by taking it slow and easy to begin with then putting the foot down once you’ve got some wins under your belt.

Now is the time, START easy, START now and you will get some WINS.
