Ease chronic pain • Improve sleep: Fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer • Reduce anxiety • Understand habitual patterns • Develop a compassionate relationship with your body • Alleviate symptoms of COPD, asthma, and other pulmonary issues. TO HELP POSTNATAL MUMS:

Relieve postpartum discomfort • Improve sleep: Fall asleep easier • Reduce anxiety and overwhelm • Gain insight into your body's new rhythms • Cultivate a compassionate relationship with your postpartum body • Support respiratory health. WHAT IS SOMATICS AND HOW DOES IT WORK? Thomas Hanna coined the term "Somatics" from the Greek word for "living body." He noted how lifestyle or injury could alter movement or posture, often causing Sensorimotor Amnesia potentially leading to pain. His method relieves pain by encouraging mindful movement and using pandiculation to retrain the nervous system. "Soma" refers not just to the physical body but to a conscious, aware organism. Through felt experiences, we can connect with this inner wisdom, building deeper awareness and healthier living. I weave somatics in with my yoga therapy training to create something especially for you.

Have you been thinking about coming to yoga but aren't sure if it's for you?
I just wanted to share a little about how I teach and why I love what I do.
I've been teaching yoga for over 10 years, and throughout that time I've been lucky enough to learn from physiotherapists, somatic practitioners, and other wonderful yoga teachers. All of that experience has shaped the way I teach, I love giving options and alternative types of functional movements that may help you grow stronger and more mobile and even ease or prevent pain.
We move with our breath which hold great positive potential for our nervous system which can equally help calm the body and the mind.
One of the things I love most about teaching group classes is the atmosphere we create together. There's something really special about moving and breathing alongside other people. It keeps us motivated, and somehow it's always a little easier to show up for yourself when you're part of a supportive community.
My classes are never about pushing through pain or forcing your body into shapes it isn't ready for. They're about listening, exploring, and discovering movement that feels good and supports you in everyday life.
If that sounds like something you'd like to experience, I'd love to welcome you to class in September!
Tuesday 2pm Navarrenx Dance Hall
I also provide somatic wellbeing coaching which you can find out more about on my website.

Happy weekend everyone :) Here's a free 37minute gentle somatic practice for sleep. After a busy day of rushing, working, caring for others, and moving from one task to the next, the body can remain charged with stress hormones and adrenaline. Even when we're ready for rest, that lingering energy can make it difficult to fully relax and drift off to sleep.

This is where gentle movement can be incredibly supportive.

Rather than forcing the body to slow down, we can meet it exactly where it is. Through mindful somatic movement and stretching, we give the body an opportunity to release tension, unwind stored stress, and gently settle the nervous system.

In this 20 minute gentle somatic stretch practice, you'll be guided through soothing movements designed to help release pent-up energy, invite relaxation, and prepare both body and mind for a restful night's sleep.

Sometimes, when we want to fall asleep but simply can’t, it’s because our minds are tired, but our bodies are still wired. After a busy day of rushing, working, caring for others, and moving from one task to the next, the body can remain charged with stress hormones and adrenaline. Even when we'...

'Yoga can reduce anxiety and insomnia for people living with cancer, study finds
First clinical trial of its kind, involving 410 cancer survivors in US, also finds reductions in distress and fatigue.'

I was very pleased to come across this article today. The chosen subject for my final paper in my yoga therapy diploma was a course for breast cancer patients with a focus on anxiety. I chose this subject because like many others I have lost people close to me because of cancer, also to have more knowledge on how yoga can potentially help to be of better assitance as a teacher. It seemed to me a given that yoga would be really beneficial and there are many other studies that give positive results, this study has the best supportive stats I've seen yet.

With all the pop culture of yoga it is easy to have an image of just downward dogs and warriors but there is so so much more to it. The breath, the mindfulness, becoming completely present for yourself, the cultivation of compassion to trust your body, these are some of the deeper offerings of yoga.
