Hi All,

I had a few great conversations on moving to France over the weekend and a common theme came up in nearly every conversation. Inheritance tax in France.

I made me think about a book I read before moving back to France called: Die with Zero.

I rented it from my local library in Houston, but you can find it for sale online:

It is $10 in the USA and €15 in France. I am not the author, but enjoyed the book so thought I would share.

I haven't seen it at any libraries in France in English.

The book pushes you to consider living your life in a way in which you will die with zero left in your bank account. While nobody wants to run out of money, the author, Bill Perkins, discovered that most people in the 80s and 90s die with significant savings that they regret not spending earlier.

When people talk about their kids, his argument is that isn't it better to help kids when they need it as most people that die at age 90 likely have a kid age 60 that might not need the money...

It is a book that makes you reflect on living your best life now. It is one of the reasons why I called my website My Best Money Life; as I wanted to play on living your best life and being financially responsible to allow you the flexibility to live your best life in your 40s, 50s, and 60, before the slow go and no go years.

The reason I thought about this is a lot of people are concerned about inheritance tax when they pass away in France.

France currently has systems in place which allow each parent under age 80 to donate to each child up to €133k every 15 years without paying taxes.

With the upcoming heatwave, I just wanted to share that we bought a Portable A/C Unit with an evacuation hose that we put out the window. It helps lower the temperature. It isn't as great as a split system, but it helps. We are renting so we can't install a split system.
