What did a room full of expat women teach me?

I was so lucky to attend the womenworkandwine event last Friday and support the amazing organiser ( 😊 another Expat to look up to!). Thanks Joy for this amazing event that just gets better and better every year 🩷🩷🩷

About 60 women from US, Serbia, Colombia, Finland, Germany, Cameroon, Canada, France, Brazil, Venezuela, UK, Poland ( I hope I ‘m not leaving anyone out) gathered in an amazing Paris apartment to share wine, food laughter, tears but specially stories.

And I could’t stop feeling in awe at the resilience and strength all these women shared through their stories. I learnt about reinvention, courage, flexibility, adaptability, compassion and empathy. About embracing different cultures, learning to let go and not being afraid of speaking up and making hard decisions.
Also, about how many German ladies are married to French men and have two children... but that’s another story.😂

Expatriation, immigration or just moving to a different country is an act of bravery. But, what this event taught me alongside my +5 years working with expats and my +15 years as an expat myself, is that most of all, it will shape the way you face change forever. In a great way.

The transition can be challenging, but the gain is enormous if you grasp all the opportunities living abroad has to offer.

What a lesson from Bad Bunny yesterday at the Super Bowl.
My heart beating fast, lump in my throat and a desire to dance and scream for freedom and justice.

What proof of elegance and integrity, of roots, of loyalty, of pride. Of inclusion, embrace, acceptance. What a proof of love and respect. Of joy, of peace, of life.

We are all different but,mabove all, we are all the same: Humans.

Let’s not forget that.

January is over. I don’t know about you but, it’s gone quite fast for me. 🏃‍♀️
Where are you at with your resolutions, intentions, decisions...?

If I may share, I am quite happy with myself and my « resolution » status for this month:

- It’s true. I am posting much less, and that it might impact my personal brand. But I committed myself to not using AI and I feel soooo good about it (for so many reasons).
- There may be fewer posts but they are more intentional, more authentic, more of what I feel I need to/have to share
- A direct consequence of this, is that I have more time and I am more focused, which is actually transforming into more opportunities. New clients and potentially new collaborations arise from this.
- I take more time to reflect. I’m putting more time into the people and the issues that are most important to me.
- I am distributing my time better and I have embraced the fact that « I don’t want to do everything » - I’d rather do less but do it well. And enjoy myself while I am at it 🙃
It might be mindset or it might be age... but I think I have managed to coach myself in the right direction.

December is here!!!

This month, I want to talk about the journey of growth — as expats and as adults — and gently debunk a few myths along the way:

✨ “It’s too late.”
✨ “People never change.”
✨ “This is just who I am.”

Because the more I learn about coaching and neuroscience, the more I see how untrue those statements are. We are all works in progress — for as long as we choose to be. And there’s so much joy in that.

My intention for December is simple:
to close the year with a positive, realistic growth mindset… and invite you to do the same.

Don’t forget to give thanks today.

When I lived in the US, I saw how big Thanksgiving was — the gatherings, the food, the traditions.
But it wasn’t until last year, when my then-6-year-old came home from school and started listing all the tiny things she was grateful for — the sunshine, her friends at the park, her favourite dinner, simply waking up the next morning — that I truly understood the real beauty of gratitude (thanks to her amazing English teacher).

It’s not about grand gestures or big milestones.
It’s about noticing the small, ordinary things that quietly make life better. And it so good for your health!

So today, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, maybe take a moment to pause and acknowledge one small thing that made your day a little lighter.
