In a world where nobody wears non-rated ballistic plates, some people still choose to place their lives behind pillars or concealment based on sterile demonstrations, not showing various angles, velocities, calibers, and distances, often with a questionable approximation of the actual protective surface being offered.
Aligning two pillars toward an adversary in order to increase the covered surface or level of protection is, in a dynamic environment, almost never realistically achievable. It requires aligning multiple parameters simultaneously, while sometimes forgetting a simple reality: an opponent can be even more dangerous when their shooting skills are poor. Irregularity and unpredictability also create danger.
Never forget that the role of a training center is not to produce demonstrations with the only purpose is to say: “we were right.” Especially when those demonstrations are isolated and only represent a fragment of a much broader spectrum.
The role of an instructor is to provide new elements of understanding, refine analytical thinking, and develop critical judgment.
When you carry the responsibility of being an instructor you do not seek to be right.
You seek to be objective.
